Very reasonable hospitality, treat him and his mates to a "birthday box".

Rob, I am not he one who needs persuading!!!! I had told the other half it was likely to be Friday/sunday so the party wouldn't be compromised. It's a tough business following your football team and keeping domestic bliss!

I stood on the away terrace once - view from there is not the best as it's kind of in the bottom corner rather like the part of our Bath end nearest the turnstiles. The prefabricated "stand" section allocated to away fans will keep you dry if weather is wet but its got low elevation. But as against that, the atmosphere in the ground is usually good, they do decent food and the locals are friendly - Rovers fans appreciate our part in their survival and there is still a lot of goodwill towards us. With the departure of Bristol RFC the pitch is also much better than in previous seasons.
I've noticed that the attitude on their forums regarding the FA Trophy has changed from dismissive to taking it seriously - someone has calculated the financial benefits round by round up to a Wembley appearance and this has got their attention, helped by the additional interest generated by a rare local derby.
Have they calculated all the re-arranged fixtures that will trash their promotion push and subsequent return to the Football League too? Surely more money to be made that way. Play the kids Darrell, you said you'd bring the first XI in pre-season and lied so do the same again but the other way round, ta.

That might not be such a problem this season as last - the Conference fixtures have been front-loaded so that they've already played over half their league fixtures, plus they're out of the FA Cup and will play their next match as scheduled because their opponents are also out. I think the pound signs have started flashing in front of their eyes and they'll field a strong side. Cambridge Utd won the FA Trophy and the Conference play-off last season with a smaller squad than Rovers, so it can be done.

The pub caters for families.
The "other half" can go shopping at Cabot Circus.
You may need a second mortgage.

Re: Bristol Rovers away!
would be better if all the Bath fans stayed together in one part of the ground
i remember Forest Green a few years ago where some went behind the goal and others went the other end.the atmosphere was a bit flat.
glad its saturday as now i can get the bus into Bath and hop on the supporters coach and have a few beers.
happy days

Yes, I know people don't like enforced segregation but it better be the case at Rovers or we'll be strung out all over the place with the atmosphere of a friendly.
Really hoped we'd all be piling in behind the goal in the tent for some Dagenham/ Grimsby like noise where everyone joins in..

Day ruined if we're all dispersed among the much larger home fans, boys on the field won't know we're there

The Royal Oak - http://www.theroyaloakbristol.co.uk/the-royal-oak-about.html - looks better, about 200 yards from Memorial Ground.
The Wellington is part of the Bath Ales (brewed in Bristol) group - it usually gets very busy on matchdays.

Re: Bristol Rovers away!
This could well be the make or break game of the season.
If we lose but entertain then some of the missing hundreds of supporters from Twerton Park may return.
My team, assuming everyone is fit...
Mellor; Simpson, Keary, Walsh, Ball; Stearn, Allen, Hemmings, Artus; Pratt, Watkins. Subs: Gallinagh, Adelsbury, Kington, McCootie, Bowman.
...but I guess Gallinagh will play with Stearn on the bench.

which is why I probably won't be going. It's just a lottery now as to whether Stearn plays (at all). Why he did not start Saturday is beyond me as St Albans would be just the sort of team he'd thrive against.

Re: Bristol Rovers away!
Ross certainly deserved to start following his galvanising of and winning the Gloucester game.
I have always thought that the "conspiracy" surrounding his selection couldn't be true but in the absence of any explanation, the only reasons I can think of is that he cannot play more than twenty five minutes due to an injury causing fitness problems or we don't want to win games, it must be something else...

The audio interview on the chronicle site should put this discussion to bed...

Gallinagh's a defender and Stearn a midfielder. You might as well throw Mellor in that argument saying he'll start with Stearn on the bench.

I assume you're being sarcastic! Despite Andrew Kerslake's best efforts, we never learnt the reason for Stearn's non selection. I have a lot of time for Adie, but his rant about the player's mistakes support my belief that our management should not speak to the media immediately after a match.
to save people wading through the mess which is the Chronicle website, you can find the interview here...

If I was Ross Stean I would be fuming. Only to be expected though always someone else to blame never the undynamic duo

Re: Bristol Rovers away!
As I said in another post, I think the more the supporters clamour for Ross Stearn to start the more management won't select him. I think that Adie Britton's comments, as well as it being pretty out of order to criticise a player in public, show that he realises that he is losing the argument. Interesting that he didn't criticise Phil Walsh for the mistake that cost us the game.
