Re: Somerset 2016
Pouring here now. Hope drainage in Northwood as good as at Lords. Needs Hants to stay well adrift from us.

Don't leave early from Somerset games when theyre batting these days. Tim Groenwald must be one of the better no.11s in the game.

Full marks to him and Overton for getting you there, but I thought you were Mx in disguise with that batting collapse!

Read that Finn went into the Somerset dressing room to apologise for his ""illegal" catch. Pity he didn't own up at the timed it happened.

I didn't watch the game so can't comment. Perhaps he needs to take some lessons on the game's ethics from Mr Overton...

Re: Somerset 2016
....and whoever's decision it was to change the wicket to be used in the present match just one hour before the start of play. Still, as it was presumably Chris Rogers I'll let it pass!
But have Somerset shot themselves in the foot? Weather permitting, there should be a result.

Re: Somerset 2016
After today only 1 result. Not a great few days for Somerset. Awful run chase at the Oval in front of 25,000 with an embarrasing finish, then deciding Middlesex missing pace trio so we can out play them ! and then puting down simple chances. Trophy got your name on it !

Re: Somerset 2016
The wheels seem to be coming off at Taunton - even the Somerset commentator found it difficult to hide his contempt at recent events.
As this report suggests, why do those who perform in public see the need to use social media?

I hope to be there tomorrow...

Well well life in the old dogs of Tresco and Trego yet. Another 50 in the morning could make it interesting.

Re: Somerset 2016
Yes, very interesting! Both centurions were magnificent today, saving their team from a possible defeat in 3 days. The morning session will be crucial as that seems to be when there's most life in this pitch, which was presumably prepared by a Yeovil fan. Still, Luton, Middx needs a show of force by their members tomorrow so I expect you to join me!

Must have been a nervous watch Martin. Justified gamble by Rogers. That's the way titles are won. We could have been back in the pack, but ur clearly in the lead now.

Re: Somerset 2016
That's the best day's cricket I've seen since Middx's glory days back in the 80s. Hats off to both teams for playing 4 day cricket at its brilliant best. I thought at the time of the declaration that it was a good one, but of course it turned out that Rogers was missing 2 of his bowlers - not sure why Trego didn't bowl a single ball. After a strong start to the run chase, Groenwald and Allenby bowled superbly and they were supported by some great fielding, especially on the short boundary side. The initiative was handed back to Middx by Craig Overton, who presumably has apologised to his team mates for some real dross and to the umpires for continually questioning their decisions. Unless he sorts out his attitude, this petulant brat will find it very difficult to become part of the England set up.
With Middx really going for it in the final overs, the tension really racked up with 4 results all possible. The final 6 with 3 balls to spare was an amazing shot.
Thanks to both teams for an amazing match!

And to end a great week for Somerset 2 former players Burns and Lloyds umpire a comfortable Middlesex win in front of record 20 20 crowd of over 27000. Bailey and Simpson impressive. Suck on that Batty.

Re: Somerset 2016
With his outstanding contributions with the bat in both forms, I'd imagine Simpson is being watched by the selectors. Little chance of the present incumbents being replaced in T20 or the other thing, but Bairstow can't afford many more clangers in the Pakistan test series.
Mx are in serious danger of actually getting out of a group for once. What happens next?

Well done Somerset for finally beating Mx, who decided to rest Malan, Roland Jones and Finn.

Re: Somerset 2016
Nick Compton celebrated his return with a neat catch to get rid of centurion Roy in Surrey's day at Lords. They rattled along at almost 5 an over for most of the day with Finch hitting Murtagh back over his head for a 6 before midday on day 1 ! Much spluttering in the Pavilion. Prefer middlesex win to keep Surrey in the mire but they confidently batted with lengthy partnerships offsetting middlesexs early breakthrough. They're in the driving seat.

Re: Somerset 2016
Quite incredible! And if it hadn't been for Bailey's century at Lord's today you would be even closer to the leaders. This league is incredibly tight - I just hope it's not decided by the weather. I see you've got Hampshire next which could be a productive haul of points. Middlesex's problem is that they can't win at Lord's. Last game of the season there is against Yorkshire - see you there!

Planning to see one of the days v. Durham next weekend, and yes I have the Yorkshire game in the Calendar. Will look to see a day or 2 of that around work commitments.
