New keeper Ryan Clarke, 36, very experienced around the circuit. Matt Richards re signed. Waiting for that 20 goal striker.

Make that a 32-goal striker, now that we’ve lost Jack Compton........

Re: Player news
I see that we have also signed Kieron Hodges - presumably to understudy Clarke and play in the Somerset Cup - and that Jason Matthews has moved from Chippenham to be goalkeeper coach.
As for Miles, I can’t help but think that the deafening silence is ominous.

Re: Player news
Looking for that signing that attracts other players. Compton wouldn't have been it tho would have added to a decent basket. Agree that Miles is going to be an indicator. Given JGs relentless forensic analysis and game watching I'm confident he will deliver. Another factor is League contracts dont expire until end of June. So current business may be limited.

Re: Player news
There's been a lot going on over the last 24 hours.
Nat Jarvis, George Rigg and Ryan Case have been let go.
The goalkeeping news you know, and Matt Richards has had his contract renewed.
So the players we know we're getting back next term are: Watkins, Ball, Amankwah, Rigg, Richards, Hodges, Straker, Batten and Artus.
Anyone else must still be in negotiation.

I must admit I was surprised Hodges has re-signed as he needs game time. I wonder if in fact he is number 1.

Klukowski signs for Chippenham, perhaps past his best by now but Chipp making the early pace on local deals.

Chippenham are welcome to him. Seemed to spend most of last season injured at Torquay. Always seemed slow when he was younger so must only be about walking pace now.

Jerry has said previously he always likes to have a keeper on the bench; my question is why couldn't Jason Matthews do that job.
I hope Kieran Hodges gets game time on another day as he spent all the league games on the bench and wasn't required to come on.

Perhaps he will use Matthews as sub? I’m sure Jerry has it sussed.

It will be interesting as it appears Clarke has not played too many games over the last number of years.... maybe he'll be the sub...

Re: Player news
Why would Clarke move from Torquay’s bench to our bench? I can’t tell if some of those posts are intended as a wind-up. I live about a minute from Jason, if I see him wandering around PSJ I’ll demand an explanation. Or just say ‘hello’.

Re: Player news
According to Twitter there will be player news at 7pm today - at around about the same time it was announced that Newport County have released Ben Tozer (who is apparently a defensive midfielder once of Rovers). I wonder if this is just coincidence (while of course hoping it is Miles!).

Re: Player news
As buzzing as I am about getting Ross (big statement of intent), still think it’s a shame Compton couldn’t have stayed. As posters have said before, I thought their healthy rivalry brought the best out of each of them.
Looking forward to who we’ll get on the other wing.....But am sure Ross will get us at least as many goals that Compton did.
Good point from Jerry about Ross being a winner....think his mentality will be a positive influence on the team - particularly when playing the Top seven teams (of who we will hopefully be one!)

Re: Player news
I am always cautious about old favourites rejoining clubs. Too often, the reality fails to live up to the promise. In this case, of course, I hope this is different and there are signs that it will be. Firstly, Ross isn't very old, he didn't appear to have lost any pace or technique form what we saw of him, he definitely still has a hunger about him and he can kick his team-mates up the arse. I would have loved to have seen him with Compton as they are both chopsy, types with a lot of belief in themselves but there you go.

Totally agree with you Marc, it quite often leads to disappointment, but hopefully Ross will prove to be a great signing.Marc Monitor wrote:I am always cautious about old favourites rejoining clubs. Oh, and great to see chopsy used on the forum.....takes me back to my days working in Cardiff.

Re: Player news
My heart cannot help be filled with optimism for a great coming season. The difference he made during his loan spell was tremendous, reinvigorating players and fans alike after that series of no score draws in December / January.
Looking forward to the Cruyff turns ... Welcome back Sterno !!!

Unsurprisingly George Rigg has joined Chippenham.
