City v. Knaphill
There will be interest off the pitch as well as on it with, you would imagine, some manager contenders taking the opportunity to watch City in action.
On the pitch it has got to be all about tempo. Against lower division opposition for some reason we seem to want to be lording it around with bags of possession but nothing much happening in the business end of the pitch, certainly against Potters Bar and Harlow. We have pace and creativity in the side, ffs lets unleash it.

Well said. Summed up our approach in a nutshell. Hopefully Jimmer will be reminding them of the Potters Bar debacle.

City 2 up through Compton and Jarvis.
Wollacut debut in goal and only 4 on bench. Hmmm.

It's all about change of tempo not tempo

And no. 6 from Nat completes his hat trick. City's first in an FA Cup tie since...?

Darren Edwards, against Willand in 2009.

Our biggest win in the FA Cup since 1980 vs Glastonbury Town.
Although given my flapping over how many seasons we've competed in the competition it might be worth double checking the above.

Re: City v. Knaphill
Jones and Marvin missing in action.
Knaphill look a tidy team but we were just too strong for them. Didn't create that many chances but took those that came along and Knaphill eventually tired.
Wollacott looked nervy early on but grew into the game and remained sharp to the end. Jarvis is very much a finisher / poacher in the Jimmy Greaves mould.

Missed today as returning from a week away, unfortunately arrived at the scene of the accident on the M5 not long after it happened. Utter carnage and puts things into perspective. I was though at the Glastonbury and Willand games mentioned.
Is it significant that Morgan and Jones were missing today? Morgan lives in Watford and that is one long trek to Torquay, especially with his business interests presumably centred around London.

I'm sure I saw Marv on the bench (in his civvies and wearing glasses?) I might be wrong. No sign of Jones though (probably got his room booked at Fawlty Towers already.)
Fair play to Knaphill, they competed well and I thought contributed to a great game. The big lad at number 4 (Norman?) didn't have the fastest feet on the pitch but I thought he showed a lot of passion, and the team did knock it about quite decently too.

Jones was there. This happened last time when he missed the Chelmsford game. I'll make a big sign next time.
Both supposedly helped with training in the week.

Re: City v. Knaphill
They were both there, sat in the dug out, just not available.....Chron match report seems to allude to an "injury" with each of them. If you had asked me before today to say which to players were most likely to follow Gary, I would have said those two - particularly Jones as Gary had invested a lot of faith and time in persuading him to come to play for him here and may see Jones as someone who can do a job for him at the back for Torquay, organising, etc.
Like Steve says, Torquay seems a long way though for Marv to go rough, with his other business interests etc.
After the initial shock of Gary's announcement, I am feeling a bit calmer re us holding on to our players - many of them have made conscious decisions to step away from full-time football, have young families (Frankie and Compton amongst others) .... will they really jack in existing job opportunities and work so far away from families, just to go to a full-time relegation battle, that's unlikely to result in a contract beyond this season (particularly if Torquay go down)?
I'm also feeling more positive about us getting a good, potentially better manager than Gary - as has been mentioned before, the post is much more attractive than 2 years ago when Gary came here based on our league position, strength of squad and generally more professional approach to running the club since then.
Final point from today - just want to say well done to the Bath Ultras - they sang their hearts out today.... sure the players and Sir Jim really appreciated it and we got a great, professional performance from the players just when we all needed it!

Re: City v. Knaphill
Both Jones and Morgan were helping Jim in the pre-match warm up. Jones then split off with the back four and Morgan with the forwards/wingers (midfielders had to fend for themselves).
The only conspiracy theory I think you can get from today is that Luke Southwood may have been 'dropped' to avoid being cup-tied ahead of a trip further south. He was there though. And that's probably bollocks as well.

It was interesting to see Jones, Morgan and Rolla consulting in the second half. I'd be up for a trio management experiment.

Having seen Marvin's farewells to everyone in the bar after yesterdays game, I don't think that is likely to happen.Steve Whites Missus wrote:It was interesting to see Jones, Morgan and Rolla consulting in the second half. I'd be up for a trio management experiment.
