I feel "can we play you every week" and "are you Scotland in disguise" coming on. Well done City...

Both! Farnborough looked like a team who had been thrown together a couple of nights ago down the pub. There didn't seem to be any organisation to their defence, especially in a first half when we could quite easily have scored 10 (and probably would have if Pratt had been playing.) To be fair, they lost their central defender to injury in the build up to Watkins' goal and several of their team looked well under 20.
But we could only beat what we were facing, and it was good to see us still hungry for more goals with the game well won.
Oh, and Mccootie seems to be reaching full fitness at last - a few real bursts of speed and his work rate was excellent. Farnborough will be pleased to see the back of him.
While I haven't got a great deal of sympathy for Farnborough as a club, I was impressed with the spirit of their fans who stayed right to the end on another bitterly cold day and kept supporting their players. They've had a rotten season to endure.

Re: Farnborough match
What was Dan Bennet like? On the radio, he sounded very lively and, to be fair, scored two goals against us while in a crap team. Maybe one to keep an eye on as a future acquisition?

Re: Farnborough match
Well his 2nd goal was possibly the best of the 9, but it would be difficult to judge him surrounded by such a poor team. However, 10 goals in 19 games is pretty good going....

Well done City we can't have scored 14 in two games of a season before?
Does anyone know if Simmo is injured? He hasn't been involved for a few weeks.

Had to stop it when he started on about the money he reckons he's put in, perhaps if you don't spend it on utterly pointless super stands behind goals you won't end up in this mess

Re: Farnborough match
I wrote quote a lot about this but my Internet froze. A bit like the Farnborough defence I guess.
In just over 20 years of watching us I don't think I've seen us come up against such a shambolic outfit in the league, definitely not over two games. McCootie scored two near identical goals in both games - one ball down the wing, defender pulls up and no-one makes any effort to help cover so he basically walks it in. Some of our goals were so easy. I don't want to do our performance any disservice as scoring seven against anyone is impressive, but I'll be amazed if we come across a side as poor as that again. I pray we don't end up like that any time because it would be very difficult to witness.
Is that our first 7-2 win since Weymouth in '77?

Re: Farnborough match
A few facts following on from the win yesterday:
First time we've scored seven away from home in the league since Weymouth on Boxing Day 1977
First time we've scored (at least) seven goals twice in a league season since 1959-60*
First time three players have scored twice in a league game since Dave Payne, Gary Smart and Dave Singleton each got a brace in the 6-0 win over Redditch in August 1988
The highest previous aggregate against one team in the league was 11 - Redditch United (1988-89), Kidderminster Harriers (1958-59), Swindon Town Res (1945-46)**
First time we've been involved in a 9 goal away league game since Feb 1997 - Halifax 4-5 City
*where we did it three times (still time)
**on successive days!

Re: Farnborough match
Excellent stats, Yuffie!
For those who weren't there on that memorable day at Weymouth in '77, I'd just like to point out that the home team were no pushovers like Farnboro on Saturday. We were going ahead to head with them at the time and it always looked like the title was going to one of us. That same season we conceded 7 at Cheltenham in the Trophy, when Sir Richard scored with a headed own goal from almost as far out as his iconic one in the Weymouth net! We got our revenge over Cheltenham later in the season, recording a 6-0 win up there in the league.
As for the 6-0 at Redditch, that was in the days when fans were allowed to travel on the player's coach and Gary Smart had a one man disco in the aisle on the return trip.

Re: Farnborough match
I know you should always in theory do better against the teams below you than above you but the difference for us this season is staggering:
Above us: P17 W4 D3 L10 F17 A29 GD-12 15pts
Below us: P16 W10 D2 L4 F37 A18 GD+19 32pts

Re: Farnborough match
I'm not surprised at this score line despite our evident slough. Farnborough were a shambles defensively when they played our youth team. Paulton are a far stronger side which suggests Farnborough are in the wrong division.
It is a shame for the fans and players as I doubt the mismanagement is anything to do with any of them.
