Re: Somerset 2015
And remember no Finn, as Team England must always come first, despite there being no chance of him playing on Thursday and Lord's is all of 30 mins away by tube. Somerset fans looking forward to years of success with Overton will probably see little of him...

Re: Somerset 2015
That was a good final day's cricket with all results possible going into last hour. Surprised Somerset didn't get a lot closer, considering the short boundaries and Finnless attack.
Anyway, that's the last proper cricket for Mx until the start of the football season - 10 games of the one day tripe coming up - maybe Dennis fancies a job at the ECB, he could hardly do worse...

Yes, well played Middlesex for making a game of it. Somerset might have started put a hitter or 2 up the order to give them some momentum, but smacks of lack of confidence. Hey ho, off to the Oval we go with little expectations. Div 1 relegation battle is gonna be a tense affair this season.

Re: Somerset 2015
Even my little expectations were too high at the Oval. Flat, listless, unimpressive alongside dropped catches, farcical run out and it was back to the 70s fare. The country bumpkins just making up the numbers. The near 20,000 crowd were lapping it up, while the goodly number of Somerset fans drowned our sorrows. Staying in Div 1 will be a mighty achievement on this form.

I see the final group game of this never ending bore fest at Taunton is a sell out. All to decide the wooden spoon probably!

Agreed too drawnout but still putting bums on seats. Somerset sellout every game and Surrey did last night grossing over half a million pounds. Big range of people and loads of families. 6.30 to 9.15, good Friday time slot, mostly clean hitting, certainly from Roy though Somerset's fielding didnt help.

Yes, Surrey need those millions to maintain their position at the pinnacle of English cricket...

Re: Somerset 2015
Reading some of Maynard's comments and assessments he is obviously not a happy man. Some people have been calling for his head already - stupid. The test will come at the end of the season when we see who is released. I suspect he will want to clear out half a dozen including some with long service and rebuild - a process he has already started.

Being dismissed in 10 overs today is some achievement!

Re: Somerset 2015
Had to give it a go. We know we're not great at 2020 style cricket currently. Let's wait for a real 50 over game.

Re: Somerset 2015
And a real 50 over defeat! Your boys seem to have forgotten how to win and I know from last year's experience at Middlesex that a change of format doesn't always change the losing trend. Somerset should survive the drop from Division 1 in the only form of the game that matters but they're promising to make it a close run thing.

Very disappointed that no Somerset fan has had the good grace to come on here and congratulate Middlesex for their extraordinary victory over champions Yorkshire yesterday. It even surpassed last season's win against them. And I was going to wish you good luck in your relegation battle.....

Re: Somerset 2015
Why would anyone wish to comment about a meaningless match from a Somerset point of view ? You need to start a Middlesex thread if you want to discuss them.

Re: Somerset 2015
Just having a little dig at my many Somerset friends who are always quick to point out the failings of the team from the capital, whatever the thread. Think yourself lucky the Lanky fan doesn't come on here any more - he'd really rub your noses in it! Anyway, good luck in your relegation battle...

Re: Somerset 2015
Sad news today on the passing of Brian Close. Somerset owe him a great deal as he was the architect of their glory years. Will never forget him taking on the West Indies quicks when recalled to the England team late in his career - no helmets etc in those days. The Yorkies title was a fitting tribute to him.

Re: Somerset 2015
Phew. Next year, definitely our turn next year. Yes, Close remembered at Taunton before start of game. Arguably as much an influence on Somerset as with Yorkshire. It all began with him.

Re: Somerset 2015
Your turn for what next year? Title or relegation? Like MX a year ago, you should never have been going into the last gamewith the possibility of going down.
Will be interesting to see if promoted Surrey and Lanky make a better fist of it than Worcs and Hants - the gulf between the 2 divisions should be a great concern to the ECB, but I don't expect they have even noticed.

Re: Somerset 2015
With the Chris Rogers signing hopefully we will push on upwards. I know you rate him Martin so lets hope he can emulate what other Aussies have done in Taunton. At 38 he will be rivalling Tresco for a close to the wicket fielding position !

Re: Somerset 2015
So the runs machine will play for Somerset next year...

Would only be a quick fix, but I'd make him captain. Either way, with a full season on those pitches at Taunton, prepare for some very big scores...
