Re: Somerset Cup
If they try switching the game to next week, thus cancelling the Ebbsfleet game, we should withdraw immediately. Same has happened to Paulton apparently.

Re: Somerset Cup
Rather than withdraw play the Development Squad, who from what I saw are better than Western League standard, plus any first team squad members who need a game.
Comrade had a good idea to play this compo pre-season or sometime when it won't interfere with the important stuff.

Re: Somerset Cup
A game like this shouldn't take preference over the league. Ever.
And fortunately it hasn't according to the Chron. They might as well play it next Wednesday if Cheddar haven't got a game, makes no difference to us as I would expect a totally different XI.

Somerset Cup
For those mildly interested I was unaware the game was cancelled so, as I was en route back from Devon, I duly turned up at Cheddar to find it all very dark.
The various locals who also appeared were similarly bemused as to the postponement. It would appear that Saturdays game was also off but given the recent dryish spell that the pitch should be fine.
I did a pitch inspection where the 'going' was 'soft' and no doubt it would've cut up, but there was no standing water that I could see, nor any 'squelch' under foot. Just as well we aren't playing at Muchelney Athletic.
However when the game is eventually played those attending will be pleased to know that they have an excellent club house and by the side of the grandstand, there is a playground, so if things on the pitch get boring, one could always entertain oneself on the slide and swings.

That'll almost certainly mean it's basically an entire Academy/Development Squad game. Unless the first team rush back from Cheltenham for this prestigious occasion.
Anyone fancy having the honour of compiling a four page programme for the Taunton game, should it happen?...

Re: Somerset Cup
The absence of information, other than FPB*, for tonights game is typical of the poor management demonstrated on so many occasions by so many clubs.

Re: Somerset Cup
It's a Western League Div 1 club run by volunteers Rob, with a pitch with a rail around it and a clubhouse, nothing else, not a big club with a fully manned front office. Try their twitter if you're desperate, it's actually relatively decent for that level. Otherwise common sense would suggest, as it's a western league div 1 side and is standard for that division, that kick off will be either 7:30 or 7:45 and admittance will be around £5.

Re: Somerset Cup
I appreciate it is a small club but updating website is not that onerous a task, especially for their "living the dream" game.
For anyone who is interested:
http://www.cheddarfc.co.uk - Not a lot on here.
Twitter - More action here.
Cheddar FC @cheddarafc
@talkSPORT please mention @cheddarafc who face @skrill_south side @Bath_City tonight at 7.45pm in the @SomersetFA Premier cup #cupdream
No doubt comrade will be refreshing every minute.

Re: Somerset Cup
£4 to get in and excellent burger and chips for £3.50 per match - so all in all a good value evening
despite a very uneven pitch both sides tried to play football and it was an entertaining game - with the mix of first team and academy players we always looked in control of the game though there were a few nervy moments at 2-1 - two neat finishes from wilson and a 25-yard free-kick from adelsbury that the keeper should have saved
interesting pre-match to see mark preece and adie britton having an amicable chat in the bar
and the drive home was an experience with very thick fog nearly all the way back - excellent driving by stillmanjunior

Re: Somerset Cup
Considering the state of the pitch, lots of "ruts", which caused the ball to bounce erratically I thought the standard wasn't that bad. We were, overall, better than Cheddar (closer to the level I played at), so the "kids" deserved to win. A pity the speedy and talented right winger from the Millfield game didn't play but I understand he has gone to Frome?
Ben Adelsbury's free kick, the highlight of the game, was a gem, perfectly placed as it swerved around the defensive wall, worth being there for that.
