Re: Shortwood v City
The challenge on Watkins was a cruncher but the lad won the ball, no one was claiming a foul it was just the first time for a while after some stupendously amazing decisions that the ref came close enough to be told properly, opportunity was taken

Re: Shortwood v City
My only appeal for the Watkins challenge was it was a corner. How on earth the referee can tell from where he was that it rebounded off Watkins is beyond me.
Hopefully we get someone better in our next game. I don't think any of the four we've had in our cup ties have impressed. The McCootie booking was almost as ridiculous as Bowman's at Poole for time-wasting when he'd just received the ball to take a throw-in.

Still don't get why he would refer to McCootie as Benny

He didn't, Benny referred to Adelsbury, the again being his 3rd goal in 3 games, however, I can see why you read it that way!

The vendetta started early as well! The referee was already on his case when he scored - after a pretty modest and brief celebration, the referee can already be seen hassling him, presumably complaining about time-wasting. Shortwood didn't seem to be treated that way when they indulged in a prolonged celebration of their opening goal at TP.

No problem in finding the ground, I turned off the A46 a long way before Nailsworth and went down single track lanes, some beautiful hamlets and countryside. Went back the same way, arrived in Bath at 10pm. (all without sat nav)
I agree about the referee, some bizarre decisions, a lot of them wrong including the disallowed goal.

The second goal he looked at the linesman about 4 times almost begging him to put the flag up. Apparently he's normally in conference north or the football league(!) so we're unlikely to see him again.

Ah I see. I assumed McCootie got the second because of the 'again'.
Player's nicknames are normally formed by adding a y or an o to the end of their name. Neither McCooty or McCooto works.

Re: Shortwood v City
"Tutti Frutti" (means "All Fruits" in Italian) is a song co-written by Little Richard (Richard Wayne Penniman), which was recorded in 1955 and became his first major hit record. With its opening cry of "A-wop-bom-a-loo-mop-a-lomp-bom-bom!" (a verbal rendition of a drum pattern that Little Richard had imagined).
The original lyrics make a great new song for the Legion choir.
"Tutti Frutti, good booty
If it don't fit, don't force it
You can grease it, make it easy"
were replaced with:
"Tutti Frutti, aw rooty
Tutti Frutti, aw rooty."

Love the way Pratty draws half the defence away with him.

Stuff the goals - where's Stillman calmly passing the ball back first time immediately after the half-time whistle?...

Re: Shortwood v City
On a serious note, the defending for those first two goals is incredibly poor. Why their number nine isn't trying to head it behind I will never know, and Ben Adelsbury being unchallenged from the short corner, able to walk into the box, is even worse!

Re: Shortwood v City
It was interesting that almost every corner in the first half we played short. It was clearly a deliberate tactic that worked to perfection.

Re: Shortwood v City
For me the third goal is technically brilliant.
Sekani's clearance is maybe fortunate to find Nick, but Dave's quick thought to peel off the challenge with the midfielder and then to race "new whippet" like to collect the ball from Nick AND continue past the full back, then to know / look up to see Andy, who had the other full back not knowing which way to turn and cleverly feinted to stay at the far post, would duck inside to the near post was perfection; clinical finish Andy.
These videos are priceless to analyse, for all purposes. I would happily go through the whole thing to see where we could improve.
