We can't complain about unlucky draws! Just got to get over the little hurdle tomorrow first...

And reached the 1st round last year, knocking out a Conf side on the way I'm sure.

blimey, you're right (as always) - beat dorch in 2qr, aldershot in away replay in 4qr, before going out 4-0 at home to port vale.

And the one that does don't want to pay for a full-time secretary, instead using someone from their hippy-dippy wind company with the predictable end result.

Not interested in the Shortwood draw. I fear our chance to progress has come and gone.
Happy to be proved wrong tonight however.

Re: shortwood at home, if....
Shortwood are a club who are supported by about 100 people at their end of the village. A muddy lane leads to their ground and they have to use a minibus to shuttle people to and from the bottom of the lane because coaches cannot get up. With talk of FGR moving to a site near the M5 just outside Gloucester I asked a Nailsworthite if Shortwood would fancy moving to the New Lawn. "never", he replied, Shortwood is a tight community and they would never leave their home. If FGR move close to Gloucester it might just about finish Gloucester City off. Windmill man has ambitions to reach the Championship, he needs to move to a larger conurbation to achieve decent grounds.

that sentence should be pinned up in our dressing room before next saturday's game as motivation to finish them off there and then!

they (shortwood) scored twice in the last 2 minutes to get a draw at merthyr last night so not to be taken lightly

I'm told they have a very good striker who is the main reason for some good results.

Recalling last year's FA Cup achievement on their part should ensure that we certainly won't take them lightly. They drew with Conference Aldershot at home, then outplayed them in the replay to win 2-1. I don't know how many of that team remain but they're clearly no pushovers - however I'm confident we'll approach the game respecting but not fearing the opposition. Link to match report of their win last year -

Re: shortwood at home, if....
I think their top striker Duncan Culley from last season and mentioned in the article has gone to Bromley now. Other scorer and captain from last year also have left since their heroics last season.....but still need to show respect - particularly with their knack for last minute goals (and City's performance in the last 5 mins at home to Poole).

Re: shortwood at home, if....
Despite their exploits last year, they've only attracted one attendance over 100 at home this season, with two not even topping the 60-mark.
Then again it's not exactly a footballing hotbed. They sound a bit like the Gloucestershire version of Larkhall. Hopefully they don't possess a player that has a shot like Alex Sykes did.

The Larks are averaging about 130 a game at the moment !

Re: shortwood at home, if....
I meant more in terms of the location of the ground (I believe someone said a coach can't go the whole way there?) and how they're arguably over-achieving playing in the Southern League South/West. I've only just realised Larkhall were doing well in it as well, perhaps this Gosport game being postponed is for the best seeing as they stuck seven past them. I'd better re-word my column...

So it looks like they get themselves up for Cup games. They beat Oxford City 2-1 in the last round. Since when have City ever made life easy for the fans?? Strap yourself in for the next ride on the rollercoaster !

The game will also be played exactly six years to the day since the Aylesbury home defeat, they were two leagues lower.
And 11 years on exactly from the 3-0 at Thame...
