New signings and shirt sponsor Empty New signings and shirt sponsor

Post by LB Wed Jun 05, 2024 11:11 am

I hate to be that person, and I know it is still early June, but with less than five weeks now to the first friendly I did think there might have been some news on new signings. Weston appear to have signed almost half a team, Torquay have had their transfer embargo lifted and Salisbury have started signing players from Chippenham! I am sure (now that he hasn't got the Cheltenham job...) that Jerry is busy behind the scenes and I accept that there are a lot of players out there looking for clubs, but it would be nice to hear something.

At the 'Meet the Club' event back in April someone raised that the usual shirt sponsor draw wasn't taking place, and Nick Blofeld confirmed that this was because there was already a sponsor lined up for this, which suggested that they would be paying more than is usually raised by the draw. Nothing more has been said about this as far as I am aware.

Yes I know I should be patient, and I know we have the Euros to distract us, but by the time they are over we should be well into preparation for the new season.

Just checked the Club newsletters from last summer to find when new signings were announced...

9/6 Thomas, Russe
24/6 Wright
14/7 Morgan
28/7 Clark

These newsletters tend to come out on Fridays so you can probably subtract a few days from the above for the actual dates. (or you could trawl through the website's news items)

So it looks like you don't need to panic yet!

Of greater concern to me is the lack of news on the couple who had not signed contracts, especially Dyer.

I'm guessing Jerry is waiting to see who performs well at the Euros.

We are in the football "silly season".  Razz lol!

Meanwhile we can concentrate on - https://somersetcountycc.co.uk/match-centre - not forgetting - https://www.bathrugby.com - Good luck both.

Well if Jack Grealish wants to get his career back on track. I'd enjoy the competition between him and Ewan Clark for smallest possible shin pads.

The signing of Bryant suggests that Jordan Dyer won't be back, as can't imagine we need four central defenders - five if you include Morgan.

If he’s as good as Parselle he’ll be an excellent signing. And hopefully the bloke from Maidstone will provide some real competition for Cooke and Wilson.

Good to get HWR back on a permanent contract. The lure of bouncing back higher after release from Bristol City.

We've still effectively got four centre backs. Presumably until Morgan goes Jerry will be restricted on bringing anyone else in.

Assuming Dyer is still with us we have ability to cover both wing back positions as he can cover the right and Parselle the left.
Would assume Dyer would be of interest to Torquay if he wanted full time football.

Good to see we have now added a new contracted mid-fielder to our squad, Latrell Humphrey-Ewers. Reading the report of his departure
from Oxford City on their website he seems to have been well regarded. At 20 yrs of age he appears to be just the sort of player we need
to improve our midfield, hopefully injecting pace to drive at opponents.

Now we just need a couple more in mid-field and the squad will look well balanced for the coming season.

At the Supporters Society meeting last week Paul Williams said that the deal is for two years and the new sponsor will be announced in the next week or so.

Oh. It seems like there's going to be a sponsor draw after all. Does this mean that the two year deal fell through? Or is it for all other sponsorships aside from the shirt?

Apparently for the back of the shirt, and I suppose the usual hoardings etc.
