Bit of a surprise. It could be heavy going for our thoroughbreds.

Not a great spectacle but we were never going to get a decent match on that pitch. Cody’s early goal virtually killed off Taunton who look a very good bet for the drop. Pretty clueless in the final third. Excellent finish from Bates at the end put a gloss on a decent performance. Special mention for Jack Batten who excelled in those conditions.

Strange that our last 3 games were all played to schedule but not one took place on a Saturday! Also unusual was that after the match you could have gone to watch Somerset playing a pre-season friendly.

Difficult conditions today but at least we provided two moments of quality finishing for our 2 goals.

No surprise that Taunton's pitch has failed the inspection for tonight's game...

I feel sorry for Taunton but that's rather an odd tone - the only alternative date for both clubs would be Thursday and if that was called off they would presumably have to extend the season with lots of ramifications. For once, the correct decision by the NL!

They made rhe decision not to inspect the pitch on Monday. Makes you wonder whether if they had it would have been played. All credit to the players for grinding through the conditions. Must have been energy sapping.
Taunton haven't played much so this will be a real test of their fitness.

It could be worse. The Bristol-based Step 10 leagues have got a massive fixture backlog, so they're insisting that any particularly badly effected sides play their games on the nearest plastic pitch - and if those sides haven't played each other home and away yet, the leagues are demanding that both games are played back-to-back on the same day… albeit with 30 minute halves! There's some tired legs by the end of the fourth consecutive half of football, I can tell you!

They're playing Maidstone this evening at Meadow Park.

Gloucester are going to the wealthiest club in the Southern League next season.

In 1985 Coventry played 3 games after the season had finished, won them all including a 4-1 thrashing of champions Everton on 26th May to pip Norwich by one point to avoid relegation. Those were the days.

Gloucester are certainly reaping the benefits of having a 3G pitch. I wonder if next season more evening games will be scheduled for early season rather than in January and February.

Not sure whether this has been mentioned before, but Cinderford Town are now playing there home games at Gloucester due to problems with their waterlogged pitch.
I think it's just the 4 teams there so far.

That will leave WSM with the AM or 10.30pm slot !

I played 5 games in 7 days in Bath and District one season. Legs felt so strong but slept for about 24 hours after that. Absolute rigmarole.

Sounds like we ought to look in to a 3G pitch ...
