Hampton thread
Looking forward to seeing this one and which City will turn up ! Need Twerton to be a fortress for most of this season, certainly more than it was last.

Be interesting to see whether Wilson and Cooke start together. We hold it up front better with Cooke on the pitch.

Enjoyed that. Hampton had most of the possession but we defended well and always got bodies in the way. Fabulous goals. Clarke tormented them and looks a star.
Fletch coming on was the icing.

It was a bit strange that their number 7 and 14 didn't start as they were dangerous and caused us real problems. But we are a team that can always get goals and so it proved yesterday. Clarke looks a real prospect as you say.

Re: Hampton thread
Not sure if it is the Jim Barron effect, the two new excellent wingers, or a combination of both.
The first goal was clinical; last season City would have been in a similar crossing position then passed it back, across, forward, back then back again until eventually losing it somewhere in midfield.
Oh and we had a referee who consulted his assistant at a key moment.
Things are looking promising!

Re: Hampton thread
3 stunning strikes gave City a deserved win and a lesson in taking chances whereas Hampton must wonder where all their possession based football got them and why they didnt play their 2 key subs that might have changed the game for them.
City's potent strike force and swift counter attacking approach meant that practically every attack lead to some goal mouth action. Clark (no e !) was at the heart of most of the good stuff and capped it with as good a goal as the Brentford strike v Palace yesterday, pundits would be drooling over it. The whole team worked very hard to keep their shape and deny Hampton opportunities, a Wright kick away save, Raynes clearance at the back post and Batten pressure on the forwards header the rare chances in the 1st half.
The 2nd half goals punctured any Hampton idea of a comeback and indeed there were other forays in and around the box that could have lead to 1 or 2 others. Hamptons best spell was with their 2 subs who injected pace and energy into their game and understandably City's hard working team were stretched at times, but nevertheless will be disappointed at conceding albeit in the last minute of the game.
Good back to back wins that keeps City in the top 4 as the league still looks to settle down as teams strive for consistency, such as Weston who have dipped remarkably after their cup final at Twerton.

Re: Hampton thread
Interesting now we have 2 players who are very effective operating in wide positions but have made the pitch narrower.
We are highest scorers in the league but also equal highest goals conceded. This seems strange when you consider all the comments in previous seasons complaining our manager was too defence minded. Anyway much prefer a 3-2 win over a tense 1-0.
