My first match since Taunton. Have I missed anything?

Re: Hungerford thread
With Hungerford’s dreadful scoring problem spanning the end of last season and start of this, it’s a good opportunity for us to keep a third clean sheet.

That didn't age well. We now have the 3rd worst defence in the division. Doesn't matter how many goals we score if we can't keep them out. Midfield an issue imo, not scoring and contributing to defence issues.

Trying to stay positive. Late equaliser at Taunton. Late concede today.
Results kind to us so still in 7th.
Need to start winning again to halt the slide though.
Need that defensive midfielder.
I hate to criticise players but Tom has been poor.

I spoke to people behind the goal and they were adamant it was a pen. Fletch was taken out. People reckon the handball was blatant as well.
But overall I felt until Spokes came on we were second best all over the park.

Re: Hungerford thread
Yes, it did look a foul but let’s not kid ourselves, Hungerford should have been out of sight by then with our keeper keeping us in the game. With the exception of a couple of matches, I’m concerned how slowly we seem to start. Surely the team got a tongue lashing for that first half and yet it conceded such a sloppy goal immediately after the interval.

Re: Hungerford thread
I think maybe both Hungerford and indeed his parent club (Wycombe ) should know of their keepers behaviour after their third goal and more so at the final whistle
Goading the City fans behind his goal to the extreme.
Very immature behaviour to say the least and somewhat risky
I know of one very large City fan who was begging him to meet up in the bar afterwards.
So think on Tyla DICK-inson and grow up

I told him to stop winding fans up as I could see people were getting very angry. Fortunately he actually listened to me.

Yes the ever recurring theme of needing a midfield terrier.
Tom Smith is now 24. Perhaps he has become more focused on a career outside football having not made the grade at a higher level?

I agree that Tom Smith has been nowhere near his best, but he seems to be attracting more than his fair share of criticism. He’s not the only member of the midfield and I don’t think any of the others came out with a lot of credit today.

Problem is we have seen great performances from him in the past, long range goals and excellent free kicks.
Now seems a shadow of his former self. Not even removal of the mullet has helped!

Re: Hungerford thread
I was surprised Tom was signed on as he really struggled last season in a role that didn't suit him. I hoped that he was coming to grips with it but I'm not so sure.
But as Comrade says the whole midfield was virtually non existent today. I have never seen Jerry's team launch it forward so much, which was a bit dumb as Cody was missing. And they offered no resistence when play was coming the other way.
I think a number of teams have realised that if they pressure us in possession we will just cough it up and lose our discipline.

They had FOUR yellow cards.

How many of those four cards were for indiscipline? Genuine question as I don’t tend to keep tabs on these things?

I am talking about our playing discipline. ie we become ragged. Sloppy passes, not doing the basics, poor positioning.

I was so impressed by both Sevenoaks and Hungerford with the determined way they battled for their deserved wins as if their lives depended on it. We will be getting a reputation as ‘Soft touch City’.

Re: Hungerford thread
Our ratio of goals conceded per game is now worse than last season, albeit we have already scored more than half of last year's total. But our aspirations are greater than a relegation struggle. We are still in top 7 (and Hungerford still in bottom 4 !), but the absence of clean sheets, and diminishing player confidence as a result, imo is the stand out feature. Batten and Smith were not first picks in the early games, only injury has brought them in and we are no better for it. Greenslade has well documented injury issues, a risk that has not paid off, a replacement is needed. Finally, are we getting enough out of Lines and Frear when the going gets tough, like now.

Keeper's was for time wasting. He should have had after about 30 mins, not 90.

Re: Hungerford thread
"Twerton fortress" is no longer with us. Teams love playing at ours, big pitch, good pitch, big stadium etc. They raise their game! Especially the 'lower' placed teams. Maybe we will play better away? Just a thought, we will see.

Agreed, but just about every team employs the same tactics and just about every ref only penalises them in the closing minutes. And I don't think you can categorise that as indiscipline - it's gamesmanship.

Re: Hungerford thread
I don't remember anyone ever being sent off for time wasting no matter how persistent. Goalies know the most they are ever going to get is a fine so calculate it is well worth the effort.
A yellow card is no deterent at all. Possibly refs know that and merely add on lots of time instead, although yesterday's didn't. Did he even speak to any of their players for kicking the ball away?
