Re: Salisbury in con south
And, presumably, the people who are owed the £91K are now not going to get their money. Isn't it about time those responsible for running up these debts (if that is what they are) were called to account for themselves?
Looking ahead, would the best way to stop this sort of thing happening would be to make each and every club pay all its debts for the season just finishing by - say - 30th June each year before they are allowed to compete the following season?

According to the Salisbury Journal Salisbury City have resolved their ownership issue and are appealing against relegation from Conference South. Rumour has it that they are going to appoint Steve Claridge as manager.

They've just had weeks (months?) of financial uncertainty, have basically gone to the wall and they're considering appointing a manager who certainly won't come cheap. What's up with them?

An interesting insight from AK, one with which I agree - http://www.kerslakesport.co.uk/#/news-comment/4584335224 - the twitter links are also a must read.

Re: Salisbury in con south
Latest on Salisbury in the Salisbury Journal. Seem to think they will be reinstated then contradict themselves by cancelling pre season game. Also the little matter of where are the players coming from in time for a new season - never mind the money to pay Claridge. Do they not get it?
JOURNEYMAN Steve Claridge is to have talks with Salisbury City about the managerial vacancy on Saturday.
The TV pundit and former professional footballer, 48, is to meet with Whites’ new CEO Paul Smith to discuss the number one spot.
“I’ve spoken to Steve but he’s away on holiday at the moment,” said Mr Smith.
“I had a long conversation with him about coming to the club and he’s interested in coming here.
“Steve is a personal friend of mine and I will be sitting down with him on Saturday.
“All things considered, other people have applied for the post and we’re not going to shut the door on other candidates.”
Claridge, who has played more than 1,000 professional matches during his longstanding 24-year career, has been linked with the job alongside other potential candidates following the departure of Mikey Harris.
Harris, among 15 first team players, parted company with the Whites after their on-going financial plight but Harris’ successor is expected to be appointed when the club is reinstated in Conference South. The club, which were expelled from the Football Conference earlier this month for not settling their debts, have lodged an appeal to the FA to rejoin the division.
....This was done on Monday, just days after the club took legal action to remove major shareholder Otail Touzar, as former chairman William Harrison-Allan and Jeff Hooper voided the sale of the club made to Mr Touzar and Mark Winter in May.
Mr Winter has now been unveiled as one of five new owners along with fellow supporters Jackie Goddard, David Phillips, Graeme Mundy and Jeremy Harwood, forming a consortium board.
The new directors said: “We would like to reassure the club's supporters that while this has been an extremely difficult and trying time for all concerned, we will be striving to pick up the pieces and take the club forward.”
“Naturally given the mess the new owners are inheriting, patience, support and unity in the community are imperative if we are to meet with success.
“While we cannot undo the damage done in the past few months the main priority is to move forward collectively and rebuild a club we can all be proud of.”
Mr Smith added that once the new squad is selected, they’ll be going part-time.
•City’s pre-season friendly with Championship big guns Reading at the Ray Mac on Saturday has been cancelled.

Statement by Salisbury today
Posted 18/7/2014
Salisbury City are extremely disappointed that it has come light that prior to a Conference board meeting tonight sensitive information has been leaked to the Media.
The club following instructions from their legal advisers, IPS Law in Manchester have addressed a number of issues that the Conference raised, and provided documentation in support of it's application to secure reinstatement into the Conference South.
The Conference initially convened a board meeting for yesterday to discuss the club's application for reinstatement, however, this was delayed until tonight.
The result of the Conference delaying to meet for 24hrs is that the club effectively had no alternative other than to lodge a formal appeal to the Football Association today, being the deadline for appealing the decision to expel the club from the Conference.
As far as we are concerned, the club is now in new ownership. The new five person board have adhered to every requirement requested by the Conference and have been completely open and transparent in their dealings with them, including providing them with copies of all relevant documents evidencing the change of ownership.
We are extremely disappointed therefore, to learn that the Conference have briefed the media with what we consider to be sensitive and confidential information in advance of the board meeting which may well determine the very existence of the club.
We sincerely hope and trust that this leaking of information will not prejudice the decision of the board at tonight's meeting.

Re: Salisbury in con south
I have little sympathy with Salisbury, but this latest news perfectly illustrates the Conference's incompetence and amateurism.
Not only the leak, but the 24-hour delay forcing Salisbury to take the appeal route.

This guy, presumably a director, should go on a course to learn grammar and cope with anger management. He really will impress the FA and Conference with this outburst!

Oh well, at least this is being sorted quickly, not like the season starts in a few days or anything.
I wonder how Greg Dyke, the FA chairman, who lives in a small village just outside of Salisbury feels about this? Doubt he even knows Salisbury has a football team, too busy with his League Three nonsense.

kermy, if you've got a couple of spare hours before tending to the vineyard, have a read of this thread on the conf south forum. contains many similar links to the rubbish being spouted by the consortium at salisbury and, even funnier, some real gems from the morrocan who some of them sold the club down the river to!

Was interested to read the criticism of Dennis Strudwick - I wonder if he still has that cigarette packet!. With the Conference's record of handling these things, I still wouldn't be surprised to see Salisbury 'do a Farnborough' and start the season when the rest have played half a dozen games or more. If they had been as firm with Salisbury at the outset as they were with Hereford perhaps the teams in Conference South wouldn't all have one less home game this season.

They have been thrown out by the FA, will the conference get the chance to reprise them?
