Am I right in thinking that now the transfer window has closed he can’t sign for a club in the National League or any higher league, or does his status as a ‘free agent’ affect this? I am sure we could find him a role at City until the end of the season!

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
not 100% sure but i think he can sign for anybody. Having had a couple of years of League experience under his belt I'd imagine he'd be looking for something higher that National South. We can hope though!

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
I went to Fratton today and came across two ex City players.
Coming on as sub for Sunderland in last 20mins was Antoine Somenyo. Didn’t touch ball for first 10 mins, made a clearance, did something at the other end - too far away to see - then got booked. NB BCFC get a mention in the Sun’lun website.
Then bumped into Steve Tweddle as we walked back to the station. He follows SAFC home and away every game. Asked after City but was more concerned at ’nans position.

So he's now Fireman Sam!
Yes, well done Sam on your elevation to the EFL.
Another reason for Torquay to stay non league as their fans always had a downer on him as a ref. Something to do with Gary Owers upsetting Sam when the two were at Bath.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
Always good to see ex-players making it as referees, but was a bit surprised when he was in the middle for our game at home to Bishops Stortford in 15/16. Always the risk of him being accused of bias if there had been a controversial decision in our favour, although from what I recall of the game there wasn't much risk of that!

Not a player but an ex-manager John Relish - One of County's supporters has been doing a series of interviews with former County players and the latest one was with John Relish. From about 26 mins 50 onward he talks very fondly of his time at City.

Thanks for posting that! Good to hear that Rello still has a great passion for the game.
So are you optimistic about County this coming season?

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
If we are solvent and still in League 2 at the end of the season I'll settle for that. Thankfully the cup and tv money from recent seasons has given the club a bit of a cushion but the playing budget for the coming season will still be tight. It will be interesting to see whether moneybags clubs like FGR and Salford find a way around the new Salary Cap rules in Leagues 1 and 2!
Will be strange watching the first few matches via video stream in an empty stadium.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
Sam Allison refereed Newport's League 2 match against Mansfield on Saturday and did ok. Booked 3 of their players and none of ours. Seemed happy to let the game flow and gave us a penalty for handball which Mansfield claim was outside the area but we think the ref got it spot on (the player's feet were outside the area but his arm was inside).
