Ross Stearn has left Eastleigh by mutual consent.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
I had noticed that he wasn't even getting in the squad. No doubt he is a victim of all the upheaval that went on at Eastleigh last season. There is a new manager and he obviously doesn't feature in his plans.
Shame as he was doing so well at Sutton.

And a surfeit of the usual comments about club and fans. Oh well good luck to him. Outgrown us.

I just bumped into our former keeper Jason Matthews in Peasedown Tesco. He was wearing a Bath City training top. Isn't he at Chippenham now? I should have taken a pic, would have made front page Chronicle news for sure.

I don't know about our loss as he was never our player. But we certainly gained from his spell here.

Former coach Tim Harris, who I believe was the man behind the Torhout trip, has left Gloucester.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
Mention of Hereford's F A cup game and seeing Ronnie Radford's goal in the replay between Hereford United and Newcastle back in 1972 on Football Focus reminded me that two ex-City players - Brian Owen and Tony Gough - were in the Hereford team for both games. Tony (who of course returned to City and went on to complete 500 appearances) was in fact the Hereford captain that season, and Brian scored in the first minute of the original tie at St James Park.
A further link to that game is that Ronnie Radford played a dozen games for City in the 1974/75 season.
I'll get my anorak!

Just to round this off, two seasons later when Hereford drew 1-1 at Upton Park against a West Ham side including Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst two other ex-Romans were involved - Eric Redrobe, who played for City in the 1976/77 season, scored the Hereford goal from a Colin Tavener throw-in.
Anorak now firmly on!

I’m sure I read something about the replay for that match, was played on a midweek afternoon because of strikes.
I expect Redrobe and Tavener could cause the woeful Hammers problems in the present day, as well.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
I remember the West Ham v Hereford replay well. My teacher, Mr Williams, was a Hereford supporter and he took a transistor radio into class that afternoon (as Junior says, the threat of power cuts meant the game was played on a weekday afternoon). The whole class listened to the game on Mr Williams’ crackling radio and cheered when Hereford scored. It’s a good job there was no OFSTED in those days!

I'm going to have to take some anorak points back off you, I'm afraid. You went to that match AT the Boleyn Ground, IN Upton Park.

Boleyn or Upton Park, I bet you wish the Hammers were still there!

It's still Upton Park.

The area of London is, and always will be, Upton Park. The ground never was.

Re: Ex Romans' Thread
I get the impression from reading the Chronicle article that the City manager was unaware that Murphy was immediately joining Hereford. It seems likely that there must have been some agreement between the two before he left Bath which City knew nothing about. Murphy was under contract at Bath so surely some sort of arrangement should have been sorted out between the two clubs. As it is neither Murphy or Hereford appear to have acted honourably or professionally.
