Somerset Premier Cup Draw
Taunton away.
Possibly the toughest possible draw there. Still, you've got to beat them all!

Tough one. Taunton are the Real Madrid of the Somerset Cup.

You mean they have some of the best players in the country but only turn up for the cup?Ashley wrote:Tough one. Taunton are the Real Madrid of the Somerset Cup.

I’m already cold thinking about that date. Play the thing in the summer.

Re: Somerset Premier Cup Draw
I see from Twitter that the previous game against Welton has to be replayed because we fielded a suspended player even though at the time the Somerset F A told us the suspension didn’t apply to that game. They certainly know how to endear the competition to us!

Re: Somerset Premier Cup Draw
Trying to get my head around this:
1. We told the Somerset FA we thought this player could be suspended.
2. They told us he wasn't.
3. Player plays in game.
4. TWO MONTHS LATER they work out he was in fact banned.
5. Instead of removing us from the competition (lets face it, that's preferable than having to play a pointless game again when we have much bigger priorities) they say we have to play it again, probably in February, when it'll be sub-zero and has the chance to be postponed again.
Do the Somerset FA really think that we're that interested in this competition that we would try and bend the rules? If we cared we'd be picking a first team, not 95% academy and trialists. This matter should have been looked at the second the game played. We came to them and said 'he might be suspended' so there and then it should have been checked, could have been resolved within days. The outcome should be for them to admit they've made a mistake and let us go through, or say: 'no, you've fielded an ineligible player' and kick us out. I cannot believe we'd beg for a second chance. There's no money in this competition, we don't have a squad of 25 and we're hunting for a promotion. Welton are, I believe, six points off a place where they can qualify for the FA Cup next season, much more revenue than this. I can't imagine they want another fixture thrown in. Sure, nearly 300 attended the last, won't expect that again.
No doubt we'll field a similar line-up to last time and be fined for disrespecting the competition. To make it clear, I have no beef with Welton over this, I like Welton, this is just another chapter of baffling Somerset FA decisions and, once again, the Somerset Premier Cup acts as a hindrance in our season, not help.

Agree with junior but...
Bath City FC website: "We were aware of the suspension and had, a week before the tie, checked with the Somerset FA if the suspension applied to the match and had understood that it didn’t."
Need an expansion on this statement as to how the communication was made ie verbal or written

I’m assuming that FA know they’re in the wrong, hence reason for making match be replayed rather than kicking us out.
As Mark says, would be better if they’d just kicked us out. And given us a ban from next season’s competition too.

Maybe the club could bring forward the ‘be a Roman for the day’ match and we field a team of supporters

Re: Somerset Premier Cup Draw
It's not just the Somerset FA though is it? I think this happened last season to a club in similar circumstances (asked the FA if the player was ineligable). I'm racking my brains trying to think who it was.
I can't see many going to a replay.

I think it was something similar in the FA Cup when City were due to play Margate. Their previous round tie was delayed because of an ineligible player at Bowers & Pitsea, I believe. They were initially told by their FA that a certain player was ok to play but then decided that he was, in fact, ineligible due to a ban relating to a previous club. I think it was probably a bit more complex than that, but that was the general gist of the situation.

Hopefully we'll be forced to field the same team as the first game. Then we can see that triallist again.

It was actually the F A Trophy last season, when because of the F A’s mistake over the Bowers & Pitsea player Margate had to come to Twerton on Tuesday rather than the Saturday set aside for the tie. At least it didn’t take two months to sort it out!
