Somerset 2018
That will do for starters. First win in opening game since 2012. Reliance on new guy and old guy for batting not unnoticed, but breadth of effective seam bowling good to see.

2 from 2, that will do, and Abell now an all rounder. Hope the batters are in the nets !

If you don't win it this year you never will! Ball seaming all over the place in wintry conditions and 3 bunsens to order for August and September.

Went to Taunton today, Somerset saved from a certain defeat by a downpour after 6 overs of Glos’ innings.

Good win over a good Notts side. Got a potentially demanding target with relative ease. 1 more win for safety IMO.
Oh and top after 5 of 14 games.

Re: Somerset 2018
Hard to see even Somerset bottling it this year. Surrey might be your biggest obstacle but the Oval pitches will probably prevent them winning enough games.
Will be interesting to see who is flown in to replace Renshaw. He has been an excellent signing and probably will have scored far more than the cheat would have. Meanwhile we've been lumbered with the runless Hilton Cartwright.....

Surrey at the Oval next up. A win there and I'll start to believe we will stay up be in with a real title chance.
Not sure how much longer Trescothick is out but his return will soften the blow of losing Renshaw hopefully.

After a bad day at Guildford, I don't want to rub it in but our two teams played the final of the 2nd XI one day competition today and what a thriller it was! Scorecard here...

Consistent mental strength is what we lack. Show it stunningly from time to time, but when it really counts... anyway plenty of time in the season yet.

Good win a great atmosphere, pretty full with 23000 there. Tied Middlesex down mid innings was key. Figure was always gettable despite wobbles. Abell and Anderson played sensibly for a comfortable win in the end.

Phew, that was a wait against Worcs. Safety pretty much guaranteed with that. As for catching Surrey, its not that they keep wining but how. 4 innings wins in last 5. Least we will have Bess and Leach for rest of summer as they have fallen out of favour with the selectors again.

Re: Somerset 2018
In Bess's case because he has had 'limited opportunities' which of course is a damning indictment of the ECB's scheduling of first class cricket in this country. And then they call up the appalling Rashid who hasn't bowled a single fc delivery!
Still, I guess the Taunton groundsman is finding his rakes...

I was going to congratulate you on your record breaking innings at the weekend but not now!
Thank goodness there's some proper cricket this week with the start of the India series.
T20 = cricketing filth

22 wickets at Taunton today! Someone hasn't been a naughty groundsman again, has he?

Makes a mockery of the game not having a balance between bat and ball.
No batting points so Somerset won't win the championship with games like this; it is looking like a result today.

That was hilarious! Apparently the last time a side failed to reach such a low target was 1963. Now do your job, pitch inspectors, and don't bottle it yet again ECB...

I don't usually look at the one eyed Somerset forum but took a quick look following the latest farce. The Middlesex troll (not me!) suggests the wait over the pitch verdict must be nerve raking.
That bloke Grockle is priceless. Replying to another poster's question 'why have we still to win the title?'...
In the past decade Rodders we have been closer than we have ever been to winning this more than once. One year we would have won it had the rules not been changed in Notts favour. We have not won it because of sharp practice from other counties or weakness of other counties in important games
Self denial?
