Re: Somerset 2014
Disappointing last night in front of near capacity crowd. No one cd take control like Petersen and Dilshan Cd. Bout 20 runs short but made accustomed of it was some great fielding. Trego reaction to being ct by Batty was priceless.

as the target of such blatant trolling rarely comes on here these days, perhaps i'll just remind you that lanky have been county champions 8 times more than somerset and never finished bottom, a position filled by the bottlers on no less than 12 occasions...
(apologies for the mathematical error above - I know that 8 x 0 does not equal 8!)

And here endeth another season of brave, good, heroic but ultimately hugely inconsistent and unrewarded efforts. Some tough decisons need to be made methinks.

Re: Somerset 2014
Ventured down to Taunton today. Hildreth's innings was probably the highlight, though Trego's and Thomas's opening spells were most impressive.
As for Mx's pathetic display, the wastelands of div 2 are looming on the horizon - a disgraceful scenario for a team who won 4 of their first 6 games. Lanky must be favourites to win next week's shoot out...

If you get a chance, do listen to the interview with Vic Marks on R5+ about the old pavilion which is to be demolished next week. Some great tales about cricket back in the 70s when he played with the likes of Close, Botham and Richards. It includes the famous commentary box clip when Trego smashed the ball through its window..

It calls for another marathon knock from Rogers if this game is to be saved. If he goes, the cards will collapse again...

Re: Somerset 2014
Yorkshire game a cameo of Somerset's season / history. Gutsy battle to put themselves in with a good chance, then contrive to throw it away and salvage a draw. Guess why its 32-0 to Yorkshire in titles. Mental strength and resilience required, apply Somerset CCC. Looks like Giles for the Director job, would prefer an Australian who would kick a#se. Anyway, always next year....
Glad Middx stayed up, nothing to do with Buttler, all to do with chance of a Lords trip (cant be Uxbridge next year again?!), and if it is a September game its big enough to get us all in for the title decider.....a bloke can dream, cant he?

Re: Somerset 2014
No killer instinct, get on top in games then seem to feel sorry for the opposition and let them back in. How often do you see a low order batsman get his best score of the season against Somerset?
Can't help feeling Trescothick is to 'nice' to be captain, as Gerry says need a coach and captain prepared to kick a few backsides.

Re: Somerset 2014
There seems to be too much sentimentality amongst Somerset fans towards Trescothick. While he probably has at least another season in him as a batsman, whenever I've watched them he doesn't cut it for me as a leader. Considering the young talent in their line up and the incredible consistency of Thomas and Trego, they should be higher placed.
As for my county, we survived by the narrowest of margins in a pretty awful season. Rogers will be a hard to replace at the top of the order next year, assuming he remains in the Oz squad, but again Mx need to look elsewhere for a captain. Will be interesting to see if Morgan gets the job - he would be my choice. One thing's for sure, that game against Lanky this week was the most draining, dramatic championship game I can remember.

The builders who are knocking down The Old Pavilion have just found this in what is left.:

Re: Somerset 2014
So Nick Compton is leaving Somerset. The fact that he wants to be nearer his London home suggests that he may be returning to Middlesex. Would be an excellent replacement for Rogers, especially as he no longer appears to be part of England's plans.

Yes thought you would be interested. Unexpected blow thats for sure. We can ill afford to lose any quality in our team, promising youngsters coming through but Div 1 is unforgiving and you need experienced players.
