Indeed, I am not sure that he played the ball with his feet in the entire two legs. As he tired, Walsh won all the balls in the air as well. While North Ferriby were not as anti-football as bloody Dover, he was an anti-footballer.

Agree about the wingers and the defenders who did block loads of shots (although, at least, one of them was on the line with his hand).

Whilst I admit I detest the style of play and the approach that relies on a lamp post at centre forward who is a master of the 'dark arts', I thought Denton did the job he was there for really well.  Phil Walsh won his fair share and generally stuck to him like glue but he was always available and he did lots of lay offs (with both head and feet) and kept the ball moving for them and was generally just a handful.  Let's not forget that on any other Saturday in any other game he would not have played in the 2nd leg as he would / should have been off for that tackle on AG at Twerton.  I'd hate it if we had a player like that or relied on that dirty kind of game but I reluctantly conclude he was effective. PS. he won the penalty I think so he did have a hand in their goal.

I guess we wanted to win playing football.
Ferriby just wanted to win.

Nothing between the two sides over two legs, so what a shame the 'winner' has to be decided by penalties - should be a third game at a neutral venue.
We were superb at their place - did the job in drawing. We are not in the final because we did not get the right result in the home leg match, mainly due to wrong tactics, considering the height of some of their players to most of ours. Quite rightly, with only a week between the two matches, it would have been senseless to have laboured this point, so we rode on the crest of optimism caused by the fantastic finish in the home game (if we had been 2-0 up and then only drawn feelings would have been a lot different); but, looking back a week, I think we 'lost' this semi-final overall at TP.

Anyway - well done everyone for such an exciting Trophy run. Now back to the 'bread and butter' footie left in this season - as Kingswood Charlie has written elsewhere, see you in the play-off final!

Denton forced that magnificent finger tip save from Jason straight after the goal, and to be fair acknowledged that to him.

Yes, I thought Denton was far more effective in the 2nd leg and I agree with Steve that the tie was lost in the 1st half at TP, when we were edgy and showed far too much respect to Ferriby. I also think the latter was true for large parts of Saturday. The comment was made that their small pitch prevented us getting the ball down to play football, but I'm not convinced it was in our mindset to do so. I was one of many on here calling for McCootie and Adlesbury to play instead of the likes of Watkins and Allen so we could match them physically - I'm afraid we got what we asked for...

I'd love it if we had a player like that. And our two short-ish strikers give us very few options o how to play up front either (although Pratty cane leap like a salmon).

I don't think we got the tactics wrong in the first half of first leg either. I think it was just the players overawed by the occasion.

Was that save from a header? In which case, that is what he was there for, I suppose. He did do a very soft header straight towards Mellor at one point.

I think that it is right that the players were overawed in the first half of the first leg. The tactics weren't far off. Don't forget also that St Juste wasn't playing in the game that Adie scouted so he could not have made any allowances for him.

Personally, I love the way we play, am glad that we don't rely on basic tactics, 'dark arts' nor physically freakish players (well, there's Chas but it's his skills that help us). Not only that but I am not sure that we would win more nor attract anymore to the club playing any other way.

I have been a critic of Adie but, since he has been at the club, we have played some wonderful football and usually only failed when we move away from this. Whoever succeeds Adie/Lee will, I really hope, play a similarly progressive style. It draws much appreciation and comment from exiled supporters of other clubs who are expecting much less from a team in our position.

McCootie coming on at ht in 1st leg was clear admission he should have started. Perhaps adie and Lee thought we could win by playing football but forgot we needed the ball first. There should have been plenty of briefings on St.Juste. NFU didn't see half our team either but seemed able to deal with us. We had to match their physicality then use the ball when they tired. Worked in both legs but our slow start at Twerton cost us.

Have keep my thoughts on the game to myself because they aren't going to make any difference but just seen the penalty on Points West and looks like we were cheated just to make it even worse.

Hey ho.

The thing that bothered me most about that penalty decision was that I'd watched it happen to Walshy repeatedly in their box all afternoon.

I don't think I was the only one on our coach expecting dark satanic mills, flat caps, whippets and rows of back to back terraces. There was quite a murmur as we passed those huge mansions! Very Happy

(but why do northerners like such a head on their beer?)

Ooh, take that back comrade! Evil or Very Mad

I take it that you had a pint of the Ringwood "Forty Niner"? If it was the pubs guest ale (all the way from Hampshire) then they should at least show some respect and serve it properly!

But the Duke of Cumberland is owned by a PubCo which is one of the last places I like to go if I want a real ale, maybe apart from Wetherspoons who, when they get it right, serve some excellent, well kept, beer!

Me and my mate were guided to said pub after the game by pete mac, Ken and several others (they needed to use the loo before driving home). We had 30 mins to kill before catching the train back west across the Pennines. On seeing the queue at the bar me and my friend (a work colleague from Liverpool who lives in Ormskirk but whose family are from Skelmersdale which is why he supports Skelmersdale United who could potentially get promoted to Conf North and play North Ferriby next season!) decided that a swift pint would be sufficient. We waited, and waited, and waited while the bar stuff served queue jumpers before they served me. The young lady who served me didn't have a clue how to pull a pint, or even how to operate the till! Hence, we got big heads on our pints of Forty Niner, which we had to down in less than 10 minutes.

But earlier on in the day we had a more pleasant experience. After following John Prescott down along the platform at Hull station me and my colleague went to the Admiral of the Humber 'spoons. I had a nice pint of Hop Studio Brewery (Elvington, York) Porter for £1.99 and there was no head at all on the beer. But the £3.99 "Traditional Breakfast" I had was awful! Worst 'spoons I've ever been to, maybe apart from the King of Wessex on James Street West!).

We then walked over to Ye Olde White Hart on Silver Street. Theakstons and Caledonian brewery beers were on but we had a pint of the guest Adnams Oyster Stout. Another southern brewery, but no head and it was a great pint for only £2.98.

Next up was the Hop & Vine on Albion Street. Excellent pints of Hop Studio XP followed by a half of Tom Woods Brewery (Lincolnshire) Imp Stout. This wonderful little pub uses lined glasses so that you get a full pint, and then some, but with no massive head!

Then, after the game (and that Forty Niner in the DoC) we had a 1 hour train journey from Ferriby via Brough to Leeds where we paid a quick visit to Whitelocks (recommended by pete mac) on the way home where I had an excellent pint of Elland (in between Halifax and Huddersfield) 1872 Porter, minus a head! Laughing

And next time you come to Liverpool, or Manchester, or Chester, I'll be more than happy to take you to several dozen real ale pubs that serve excellent, well kept beer with no big frothy head!

Enjoy the rest of the season.

Yes, well after a 4 hour coach journey we had the simple choice of the DoC or the clubhouse. It won't get any Camra awards, but the pub served its purpose for us admirably. I guess there were different staff on duty by the time you visited, because the ones who served us were excellent.
