trophy match at Wealdstone
For obvious reasons, the Trophy doesn't usually create a lot of interest amongst City fans. But the fantastic win at Rovers in the last round should have changed that and a game against a team from our own level on Saturday gives us a great opportunity to progress further. OK, the recent home defeat to them should give them a lot of confidence, but we weren't at our best that day, just as their fans would point out that the team we beat up there in September was very different to the present one. In fact their win at Twerton came at the end of an impressive winning run - they've drawn the 4 games since. However, they're clearly proving hard to beat.
Everyone was impressed with the great support shown by their fans when they came down in such numbers. Can we create a similar atmosphere on Saturday? The match at Rovers was a great day out for the 400 travelling fans - the team needs another good turn out on Saturday. While there are a good number travelling on the SC coach, it's by no means full. Perhaps many more are travelling independently. Despite its London address, it's an easy car journey up to Ruislip and you don't use the awful M25.
Let's turn out in numbers and help the team into the next round!

Great rallying Comrade. There will be healthy numbers on the train including Portsmouth and Isle of Wight based devotees coming up. I see this as our second crack at the FA Cup as the win against Rovers felt exactly like that. All aboard!

Me and my boy are coming up (we usefully have combined it with a trip to the in-laws....). Looking forward to it. Their fans were great at ours last time, and I have to admit I have a soft spot for them in our league now....that will all be but aside on Saturday though!

I don't usually bother with programmes at away games, but I can recommend this one!!

If it's more than about five minutes away I'll probably stay in the clubhouse. It was pretty good in there, excellent food.
And I would recommend the programme (even with Powell included). Made me envious how excellent it was.

I have heard that the clubhouse is good from others as well so I shall probably head straight there.

With more posts on this thread than on the Stones' one, we're winning the phoney war! Must be a good omen...

If the game was at home, you could head for The Star on the Paragon...

The bar at the Club was very good when I went in September. A couple of real ales and a half time order system!
Plus a van that sold curry.
And City won!

Have we won away since? It doesn't feel like it!
It was quite a warm evening as well I think.

It was. Enjoyed a drink at the picnic tables outside the bar. Only Cup wins at Poole, Shortwood and Rovers! A good omen!!

I did mean to say 'in the league' as remembered Rovers and Shortwood straight after! Forgot about that magical night under the lights at Poole.

Sutton United Away
As I suspected, that screaming goal from Ben Adelsbury to take the lead at Sutton was just a figment of my imagination!stillmanjunior wrote:I did mean to say 'in the league' as remembered Rovers and Shortwood straight after! Forgot about that magical night under the lights at Poole.

Hence why I said initially 'it doesn't feel like we've won away since' and not 'we 100% catergorically definitely have not won a single away game since Wealdstone and that is the most ultimate fact of all time'.

Re: trophy match at Wealdstone
Ah, OK, so the game at Sutton didn't feel like a win. Maybe it only feels like a win if Stearn scores. However, that would mean that Sunday's game at Maidenhead did feel like an away win (after surviving that first half, it did kind of feel like a win).stillmanjunior wrote:Hence why I said initially 'it doesn't feel like we've won away since' and not 'we 100% catergorically definitely have not won a single away game since Wealdstone and that is the most ultimate fact of all time'.
Anyway, back to the FA Trophy, it is now 25 years since City last won three FA Trophy games in one season (not promising).
