Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
I'm looking forward to it, especially the questions you have in store for us! Hopefully there will be a great turn out - every penny raised helps us get the team to away matches.

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
Well done to the few who turned up last night for a very entertaining quiz. And a special thanks to Shane for all his hard work beforehand and on the night - his efforts deserved a far better turn out.

Maybe holding it on a 'school' night might be the reason for a low turn out

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
There will always be reasons why people cannot attend. That was the first time we experimented with a Thursday evening, the usual Fridays and Sundays not being possible at the moment. Clearly it's not a popular night, but with respect we rarely attract children to the quizzes and one busy teacher managed to attend.
It would be interesting to read if people are still interested in quiz nights or what other fundraising events might appeal. This is the 2nd poorly supported SC event this season (the other being the sponsored walk) - if people really aren't bothered, fair enough.

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
Neither Chris or I could attend this function last night due to other commitments. As you know we are regulars at the quizzes, but would, by far, appreciate it being held on Fridays or Sundays. I hope they continue because they are a good fun evening, besides raising money for SC causes.

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
The last quiz was held on a Saturday and had a poor turnout, so I don't think the fact it was on a school night made much difference. Sorry Steve but I can no longer do Friday and Sunday for childcare reasons. Of course if someone else was to do it then it could be done on those days

A good quiz, very close for 1st and 3rd right to the end! Thanks very much to Shane for doing the questions.

OK Shane - didn't know you are restricted by those nights. It may well be worth trying another Saturday then - especially 'out of season', when warmer weather may entice people to come out of their comfy homes. Saturating the fans (and non-fans) with advertising may put more bums on seats too.

Where was it not advertised?

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
It was in numerous programmes, on posters, official Facebook and Twitter and no doubt Basil announced it on away travel. Not forgetting it was on this forum as well.

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
Just to clear up any possible misinterpretation of my wording - by 'saturating' people with advertising, I was only humbly suggesting that we could consider reaching a wider 'audience' in future in order to get a decent crowd in. I am fully aware of the advertising that is done, but it is almost entirely 'in-club'. Not many use Facebook etc; not many access the Forum, not many get a programme, and not many read the Chronicle. One form of media that escaped my attention was the good old-fashioned poster - and it was this form of advertising that I was attempting to draw your attention to. I would have put some up in certain hostelries, and surely a few Twerton local fans could have targetted some shops, including the chippie?
Of course, perhaps the SC do not particularly want a large invasion of neutrals at such an event; but it was only a suggestion as a possible way of generating more interest into a fund-raising event, which takes a fair amount of work and dedication to set up and run, and yet fails to attract enough interest from its own fan-base - especially those under pensionable age!?

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
To offer some figures to the debate...
16 people attended + the question master, Shane
Of those 17...
5 SC committee members
8 at least live outside Bath
13 City fans
I think you're right, Steve, to raise the issue of age - Ashley was probably the youngest of those 17 by at least 15 years! Quizzes obviously don't appeal to the younger end of our supporter base. I'm afraid membership of the SC doesn't attract many either, which makes it very difficult to have a wide age range represented on our committee. As I posted above, it would be good for those not interested in quizzes and sponsored walks to suggest fundraising efforts which they would support. I'm afraid apathy amongst the supporters will eventually lead to the same amongst those trying to organise fundraising for the club. I'm only involved in a fraction of the efforts of others, like Bas, Shane and Gill so please don't think I'm blowing my own trumpet here.
Yes, your point about posters beyond TP is a good one and I'll raise it when we review the quiz. In the past we have attracted at least one 'professional' quiz team - the only non City fans there last week were relations of regulars.
As Shane suggested above, I think the quiz was widely advertised to City fans. The numbers attending have dropped dramatically in the past couple of years. Remember when we canvassed the regular attenders to ask if they wanted more each year and even a league!
Thanks for responding on this thread, Steve. You and Chris are good supporters of the SC and fully entitled to raise issues and suggest ways of improving things.

Just to say I was going to come but my mum wasn't able to collect as she was out until late. I'm trying to say that don't worry about not appealing to youths as I think it is the sort of event that we would like to go.

That's good to hear, Thomas. Perhaps if we do another one, you could enter a school team.

Re: Supporters' Club Quiz
My local, the Royal Oak has a quiz every Tues and it's packed, mostly with first year students.
Keep it going I say. I've been to a couple at Charlie's and it's great fun.
