Penalty shootouts Empty Penalty shootouts

Chronicle references the 6 previous failures. Recall Ferriby vividly, and there was Potters Bar last year? But the other 4? Must have been 1 or 2 Somerset Cup games.

I believe...

Radstock (Somerset Cup)
Tiverton (Southern League Champ)
Tivvy again (League cup)
Clevedon (Somerset Cup)

Yep, before that was a win over Brislington and a defeat to someone (Poole?) in 1979.

Presumably if we get a pen today they will all want to have a go. But I would expect Compton to take it.

Penalty shootouts Empty Poole Town

Yes, it was Poole Town on Wednesday 9th May 1979, in the Western Counties Floodlit League Cup Final. It was a single game final, at home, game was 0-0 after extra time, Poole won 5-4 on penalties. Memory is a little vague, but I have a feeling it was Nigel Ryan who missed the decisive penalty. I do rememebr that the "legion" of the day, who usually stood behind the goal, gathered on the Poplar Side for the second half, and discovered the benefits of being under cover in terms of generating increased volume.

I remember that game fondly. Not many there but the fun we had making noise made the result irrelevant.
