No more postponements at Weston?
I see WSM have been granted permission to install a 3G pitch - does this mark the end of the traditional last-minute postponement?!

Not clear from that if this is for their main pitch or for a separate one. A completion date of March suggests that it's the latter. But either way I'm sure that we'll be playing the usual lottery leading up to new year's day!

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
I thought it was for a training pitch as it doesn't seem practical to replace the main pitch during the season.
Though, as Martin says, it is not clear from the article which it is.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
This certainly appears to suggest that it is going to be replacing their training pitch alongside their main pitch.

Yes, it is definitely their training pitch.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
I see that rain is forecast for most of today, Sunday, continuing overnight and then drying up around 11 in the morning.
It doesn't look very promising, but at least high tide isn't until 18.10, so it won't be sea water compounding the usual problem.
Happy New Year to you all.

New compo: What will be the official time, to the minute, when the game is called off? 13:15 inspection after the heavy rain forecast 0800 to 1100.

They should have just called it off in the downfall during the game on Boxing Day and be done with it.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
It doesn't appear to need a deluge to drive a postponement but as Kermit says this may be down to the tide.
It doesn't seem right that we are so used to it being rained off that we fully expect it to be off rather than on.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
According to a statement from Weston on Twitter there is an inspection at 9.30 in the morning - it goes on to say that there is water on the pitch and more rain is forecast, so doesn't seem very hopeful.

I was gonna guess at five minutes past me entering the turnstiles, but now we all know it is 9:30 tomorrow

Kyle Brookes @KyleIOWromans
Hi @SkyBet can I please have odds that @WSM_AFCOfficial call their game against @BathCity_FC ON after their 9:30 inspection, but they still call the game off? #RequestABet
Sky offer no odds as it is a certainty...Ha! Ha!

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
I am normally an optimistic person but I would not put money on the match being on tomorrow
(just hope they call it off before people start travelling to the match )
and I have to confess that I have already started planning things to do instead of going to the match.
Happy New Year to all Bath City fans.

So, the game is 'currently' on. I will go for a 14.45 postponement in the sweepstake.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
When they say on - it is not on as there will be another inspection while the forecast is for more rain. Still I trust their pitch will beat the weather.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
UPDATE: Following a further downpour there will be an inspection at about half 12 by the match referee.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
So, let's do the maths.
Referee lives in Milton Keynes.
He was waiting for the first inspection before leaving home.
So, maybe, once he'd heard the news, he got away by 10.00.
Journey time, on a good day, is 3 hours.
Say he arrives at the ground at 13.15, gets his boots on (hope he brought his wellies), squelches around for 10 minutes, calls it off at maybe 13.30.
News is passed on to BCFC, whose players and supporters are by now at the ground.
Supporters are in the bar, giving money to WsM.
Priceless.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
I think that just about sums it up, Kermit, and as this was a pretty predictable situation I made the decision a while back not to go. Been caught by WSM on 2 previous occasions and said there would not be a 3rd.

I wouldn't, they've made a fortune from our lot in the last couple of years.
I'm only intending on going as we're lacking bodies for the radio, but really wish I'd made alternative plans now. I always do and enjoyed myself much more, in recent years I've bought a car and been to Wincanton Races whilst receiving news an hour before KO that it's off at the Woodspring. Even becoming nearly bankrupted by both hasn't dampened my spirits whilst the pitch, er, dampens.

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
According to Twitter there is an area of the pitch that still needs working on and the referee is making another inspection at 1.30 - presumably he is waiting for the wheelbarrow to arrive from Forest Green!

Even if it starts it could be abandoned as there is further rain forecast.........

Re: No more postponements at Weston?
WSM Facebook post: Latest update at 1100. Downpour which puts the game into question. All referees certified to do pitch inspections have now left the area to go to their own appointments.
Await the arrival of match referee at around 1250
UPDATE The match referee has made an inspection at 1230. A further inspection will be held at 1345. The turnstiles will not be opened until after the inspection.

Just driven past the ground.
Signs are up for a £1 parking - I can only assume they have put in a proper car park to replace the muddy swamp!?
