Help fund the Chagossian National Football Team.
Not heard of Chagossian National Football Team? Not heard of the Chagos Islands (or Diego Garcia, the more well-known largest island)? The Chagossians are a group of islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It is a British Overseas Territory. Between 1968 and 1973, the population of 1500 were forcibly removed by the British government in order for the US to build an airbase. They went to Mauritius, the Seychelles and largely around Crawley in the United Kingdom. The latter exiles have formed a national team to play in non-Fifa national tournaments. They are looking for crowd-funding and sponsorship (http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/football-for-community/).
Remember, these are not people fleeing other countries, they are people who want to go back to their own country but the British and US governments are not letting them. This team is a vital part of their national identity. If you can give anything from £10 upwards or sponsor kit for them, please do.

Re: Help fund the Chagossian National Football Team.
Between 1968 and 1973, the population was forcibly removed by the United Kingdom through intimidation of locals and denying the return of any who left the island. Many were deported to Mauritius and Seychelles, following which the United States built a large naval and military base on Diego Garcia, which has been in continuous operation ever since. It was one of the "Dependencies" of the British Colony of Mauritius until it was detached for inclusion in the newly created British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) in 1965. As of March 2015, Diego Garcia is the only inhabited island of the BIOT; the population is composed of military personnel and supporting contractors. The islands are in the centre of the Indian Ocean and a vital strategic base.
