Re: National Game Awards
I accompanied Bas as his guest to Craven Cottage today and we both had a brilliant time. The ceremony took place in the Chairman's Lounge and attracted about 100 people - those who had been nominated and their guests, various sponsors and the staff of the NLP. The only fans present were the two of us plus one from WSM (who was very despondent about recent developments at his club). We had a very nice meal, with each course followed by several awards being given. Everyone was very friendly and willing to chat - Gerry will be amused to hear that I had a conversation with John Still of Luton (a great bloke) and one of his players (the huge one who joined them from Fleetwood). Sitting at our table were the chairman and manager of Gosport, who shared some of their secrets on how to get a team to the trophy final! And a bloke who we both recognised but couldn't place, introduced himself to us - Ricky Chandler!
Well done to Pete Mac for nominating Bas - as you can imagine, he was chuffed with his award.

Delighted to nominate Bas and really glad he won. I made great play of the fact that he misses most of the first half running round selling tickets etc so relies on DVDs to see the action/goals he misses.

Yes, in all seriousness congratulations to Bas. Sounds like he was deservedly spoilt as well for winning the award.

Well done Bas, well deserved. No-one personifies non-league football more than Bas

Re: National Game Awards
Well done Pete Mc for nominating Bas, inspired choice.
John Still is loved by Luton fans, not simply for bringing them the title but he comes across as a genuinely warm guy and has reconnected the fans with the Club. They invite one in to their on the pitch post match huddle. When Cullen scored a last min equaliser at Cambridge in the League, Still said it should be described in the papers as 'Cullen 90m with 2200 assists' (the number of Luton fans there). He makes great play about the team being about the players and the fans. 'the stronger the team, the stronger the team'. Steve McNulty would have been the ex Fleetwood player there.

Re: National Game Awards
Yes, what really struck me yesterday was how the people running the leagues and clubs recognise the efforts of people like Bas and the guy from WSM. Both of them were encouraged to say a few words (several hundred in Bas's case!!) and everyone present hung on to every word and gave them probably the loudest rounds of applause of the whole event.
I think the club are going to present the award to Bas again on Saturday evening and there should be something in next week's Chronicle.

he was a guest of someone else up for an award. he has very fond memories of his time at TP and would love to come back if there's anything for ex players in the 125 celebrations. I have his contact details.
