100% appearance record
Assuming Steve Phillips plays on Saturday he will become the first City player for quite a while to start every single league and cup game in a season.
As a little quiz can anyone remember (or guess) the last player to do this. No looking it up on the website (like I did).

I know Rob Cousins played a lot of games one season but fell way short of Colin Taveners record of 70+

Correct. In 2001/02 he started all 50 games although he was substituted at least once so doesn't match Steve's record of being on the pitch for every minute of the season. The closest since was Adam Connolly in 2009/10 when he started every game expect the one Somerset Premier Cup match.
Before that it was Mark Hervin in 1997/98 and Dave Mogg did it five or six times in the 80s and 90s. Though in those days we took the Somerset Premier Cup seriously!

Re: 100% appearance record
Considering we went through 49 players that season it was a miracle that Thorne featured so regularly. Great player. I didn't realise Connolly was that regular in the promotion season, makes the play-off win over Woking even more impressive as he was injured after a minute or so.

Re: 100% appearance record
Connolly at his best was a superb and reliable mid-fielder. I think towards the end of his time at Twerton he suffered from taunts from the enclosure area in front of the stand (the same group who tried to intimidate Jim Rollo in later seasons). I have never discussed this seriously with anyone but I think it affected his confidence and made him a more conservative player than he might otherwise have become (or indeed was). What do others think?
Any rate, respect to Steve Phillips.

Re: 100% appearance record
Unfortunately there always a few who think it is a cracking idea to abuse their own players. Players have to learn to live with that.
Personally I think Connolly did what was asked of him but as you say he became more conservative as time went on.

I expect those knockers would have appreciated his commitment and attitude this season if he had been here. A great servant to Bath City.

Re: 100% appearance record
I seem to recall Adam's knees weren't great and he wouldb't do the whole pre season bit in order to give them a good rest.
If this is the case then the condition would not have improved with age. Consequently he would have had to play more conservatively. Doubt if a handful of t***ts in the crowd would have influenced him much.

Re: 100% appearance record
I think the only criticism you could direct at him was a lack of goals. But he's hardly the first midfielder we've had with that issue!

Re: 100% appearance record
This may be an age thing but I can remember a couple of great Connolly goals, but I can't exactly place when and where! Can anyone help out with details please?

Re: 100% appearance record
He scored 16 goals in 274 games. Probably the two most memorable ones were the dipping volley at Tamworth and the equaliser against Dagenham in the BT live game.

The Tamworth goal is the best I've ever seen City score away from home. Just sensational.

Only a few weeks after as well. More memorable for the footage which shows me, behind the goal with camera, dashing off in the wrong direction whilst Yuffie gets the best pics.

Considering the lengths I've gone through to attend some games, I should have made more of an effort to get to one played eight years before I was born.

All on RoD. Remember him hitting a 25 yard free kick against Weymouth at Twerton early in his City time.
Great player for us.
