I live in the fourth most deprived electorial ward in Britain, and for me all this talk of the mean streets of Twerton is laughable. I guess you can only compare it to what you know. The obscure village where I grew up in the back end of Berkshire was probably more dangerous than Twerton, though.

Agree 100%, you can't separate physical assets from the social fabric.

Firstly - I have my own views which are separate from any political party I may or may not be associated with. If you think my post is claptrap, then it's entirely all my own work and nothing to do with any other person, peoples or organisations.

Secondly - I merely described what was happening with regards demographic change in Twerton. I made no commentary whatsoever as to whether or not that was a good or bad thing. If you want to disagree with the statement that the demographic in Twerton is slowly changing, then please do so (though the weight of evidence is unlikely to be in your favour). Alternatively if you just want a bit of a rant or a row with someone over the impact of those changes, better luck getting a bite off of someone else

Just to let you know I'm in place as the new manager at The Old Crown - and it's definitely not become a gastro pub! We've had a tidy up and clean, done some structural work, etc, but it's still the same place.

The stock's in and we're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Also, I was in there tonight with a couple of other supporters and it was great. Gem on tap, friendly service from, I assume, Dave and very comfortable and welcoming. For a couple of reasons, I don't make it to the Crown pre-match but recommend those that can to do so.

Nothing's changed, it's had a good clean, the toilets are fixed, the mun behind the bar seems a good mun, and a new dartboard is up. It's a thumbs up from me

Yes, we've got Gem - today's delivery is already racked in anticipation of it being needed on Saturday.

The pumps remain unchanged for now, but should demand justify it we've got four handpumps so no reason I can't cycle different things on one of them.

I'm slowly expanding the range - small steps rather than revolution and nothing (that I know of!) has been dropped.

I (and everyone else I've asked the opinion of) find Palmers a pretty rank brew. Just seems very unclean and metallic. Has always surprised me why its on religiously in Randall's ahead of an Abbey or Bath Ales pump.

As the Old Crown's two staples are of similar bitter variety it would be great to have a golden/ IPA on or something a bit different sometimes, but of course depends on what is obtainable.

Am So glad its open again, can't wait to sup on Saturday.

Do mod me if I shouldn't say this, but basically a senior person at Palmers is a long-time City supporter and so there's been a long-term relationship between the brewery and the club. I quite like the Dorset Gold. Would be nice to have a rotating "guest ale" at Charlies, but not sure if the economics stack up.

I visit Bridport (home of Palmers) regularly and rather like their beers.  Especially 200. Guess it's just down to personal taste - or how it's kept.

I am not that keen on Palmers draught as served in Charlies, the bottles are ok, but having a more discerning palate...  ...would like to try this - http://palmersbrewery.com/ales/cask-ale/tally-ho/ - both bottled and draught to see how it compares with my favourite "Old Crafty Hen" (in bottle).

Guest ales are a a good idea. Some clubs base their guest ales around away teams (I think FCUM do and, perhaps, Wealdstone) which is a nice touch.

Yep, with four Bath breweries (Bath Ales, Abbey Ales, Electric Bear and new one Hubris Id) plus Wild Beer Co in Shepton Mallet, there could be some good short-term cross-promotional opportunities if we could find a way to make it fit with our long-term relationship with Palmers. Not sure exactly how that would work though and certainly wouldn't want to upset the apple cart.

Bath Ales brewery is actually in Warmley, Bristol.

I've never understood why Abbey Ales Bellringer has never been available at Charlie's; after all, it's only brewed on the other side of town on Camden Row.

Does anyone remember "City Ale" brewed by Bath Ales that came in a bottle? Lovely stuff that was, even though it was basically just bottle conditioned Gem so had a slightly higher abv.

Yes City ale was great and made a few quid for the Club.

Indeed it was, during my tenure, I had the fortunate job of collecting the beer, delivering, tapping, and finally drinking it!
A tough job, but someone had to do it.

HPA is a truly delightful pale ale. It’s smooth on the palate, and boasts a citrus hop aroma leading to a balanced bitter finish.
Locally grown Target and Celeia hops play an important part in making this such a distinctive beer. With Maris Otter pale malt and malted wheat also being used, this is very much a pale ale with all the right ingredients.
4.0% ABV

City are away this weekend.

It or something else instead will be. Literally just finished a meeting with director of brewery and director of management company and I'm free to do and have anything I feel I can shift, so good news!

This season! Bromley have a guest beer from the visiting clubs area. Granted they are getting a lot larger crowds currently than City.
