It's interesting to see that the high flying Oxford City can only average a crowd of 236.

Getting back to us (and at the same time trying to pull together a few ideas from recent separate threads) I do think it'll be interesting to see come the end of April what our final average figure for the season will be.  With the Bid process trying to take the club forward I wonder what hope it has of succeeding if things continue on the pitch as has they have been since those far off heady days of August?  This week we've had the poor training facilities story from the manager to explain the recent run of bad form to add to his previous one we had about the players we've got being all we can afford. In the grand scheme of things Bath City is a small business and if it was, for example, a small petrol station, post office, corner shop, cinema etc it would probably have been closed down some time ago as being financially unviable. For me everything to do with a professional football club centres on what happens on the pitch.  If things are going well the crowd numbers (and the club's value) pick up and if they're not then they fall - simple.

Turning to us, we've had a lifelong supporter everyone respects come on here this week to say that with the way things are on the pitch he'll be giving games a miss from now on and this is something that has happened whilst at the same time we've also got the 1000 crowd initiative trying to get itself up and running.  If the die-hards are giving up on the club what hope is there of attracting and then sustaining support from others currently outside the club? We've had other people commenting on the forum about how quiet the board has been recently and you do have to ask what they must make of the current situation.

Let's hope things improve tomorrow and the club starts to get some momentum back into its season.  But if not, what then?  We're are told that we get the manager for free and can't afford to pay anyone else who might need to be brought in to replace him.  If that's the case, I wonder if anyone from the current squad could step up to the mark and inject some fresh ideas into the team as surely there must be at least one of them who'd be up for it and I doubt it would make as much of a difference to the club's balance sheet as the decline in gate receipts will if the current situation is maintained and crowd support continues to dwindle away.

A good posting TP. I just want to home in on your last point (highlighted). Many people have spoken about about our current team management costing the Club next to nothing, but whenever the gates fall below the level required to 'balance the books', as happens invariably when the Club has a bad run of results, this well worn statement is completely misleading. In this circumstance the team management is very expensive indeed! If we were to pay the 'going rate' for a manager who was capable of preventing these all too regular slides down the table, the Club would be financially better off. In addition, if he could introduce a more attractive, as well as successful, style of play, I venture to say that the crowd would increase to, and probably exceed, its former satisfactory level. And, before anyone asks the question, I do not imply any increase of the playing budget - just bringing some 'fresh blood' into these tired ol' Clubs veins.
