Preece released?

Rumour around the ground is that Mark Preece has been released. Another bizzare club decision?!

Preece turned up for the game and left at around 2.15. The entire performance would suggest that it caused shock waves through the team and not just to the lad himself. Posibly even the management were affected as the bench looked very subdued.

i guess the next week or so will shown how big a 'clown' he is - if/when a replacement is brought in

i agree that from the outside the timing seems odd - i would have thought the move would have been better done at training though i suppose preece may not have been there on thursday

He's also forgotten the biggest game of the season on Wednesday!

I'm sorry I don't buy that statement for one minute!
Preece has had one of his most consistent seasons for us, I cannot believe that claptrap about the balance of the defence etc. If that was the case, why would he get the boot 30 minutes before k.o.?!

The timing is odd. I remember last year he looked set to go as soon as Arch took over when he was left out for a few games, but he bounced back and performed well.

This season he's started every game bar one so not sure what's happened. I wouldn't say his performances recently have warranted leaving him clubless.

Really poor management / timing. If you are trying to build team spirit and togetherness etc. and then dismiss an ever present player 60 mins before KO then there is bound to be a -ve effect. Cost us 3 points and possibly more.

Given Preece did so much work with the Academy, the timing of his "departure" seems even more weird after the grant funding was successful.

I heard Preecy hadn't done anything with the foundation this season - even though he enjoyed doing it. The club has not benifited from being able to provide former full time players with something useful to do this season because of the ongoing dispute with the foundation.

Just for the record, the dispute is not ongoing. It ended with the departure of the former chair of the club. We are presently exploring ways of working closely with the club again and have already shown our support by helping to sponsor the Community Day.

yes - wrong word - I meant it was an extended dispute. But I am really glad things are looking up in this regard.
Obviously not all players are suitable but Sido Aaron Charlie Griffin and Preecy have all made valuable contributions to the foundation and I'm sure their involvement has improved the profile of Bath City.

Just an outrageous way of dealing with a player, no excuse whatsoever for the nature of the dismissal. What were the management thinking of?!

Agreed. Adie seemed a little embarrassed on the audio, AK gently probed but avoided the 'Could you have handled it differently?' question
