Highworth or Shaftesbury away!
Cup draw just made.
Highworth are located a few miles from Swindon Supermarine and play in the Southern League D1 South (same as Frome, Level with 3 points from 3 matches.
Shaftesbury are in the Wessex League Premier (Level 9) with 8 points from 4 matches.

Happy with that on the pitch. And it ticks off another ground.
Off it could be a pain to cover but these things happen. Highworth's pitch has a tremendous slope, Shaftesbury converted to 3G in the summer. I'll probably go to the replay tomorrow, will decide last minute.
We've not played either before in our history.

In the early 80s Highworth was the place to be as had a wine bar which played Lloyd Cole, Sade, etc.
Can’t say it has improved!

Longlevens v Gloucester would be my bet. Step 9 v 6 and Longlevens play in Gloucester.

Do the BBC even know Bath has a football team?

Fair point as it has been 10 years since we got to the 1st Round Proper, but tbh if we got a decent home draw then the media could milk the Roman thing, the rugby contrast, the former pro manager, etc, etc, they wouldnt have to try very hard.

After Gloucester's 9-0 hammering on Saturday, Longlevens must fancy their chances!Ashley wrote:Luton Roman wrote:Shaftesbury v Bath City has BBC live match on the red button all over it ! Level 9 v Level 6

So we go to Shaftesbury who won 4-2 tonight in what sounds like a pretty physical game.

Highworth ended with 10 men, red card in an off the ball incident which I missed.
Terrific game and impressed with Shaftesbury. Should have won by more. Ash Pope was a real handful, scored two and one assist, didn’t stop running. Hopefully they’ve used a lot of energy up in that game. They were miles better than most Step 5 sides I’ve seen.

Shaftesbury’s joint managers were at Christchurch last year when they played Dulwich in a televised tie. Lost on pens.

Turns out that Shaftesbury is a pig of a place to get to from Bristol by public transport!

Getting from Bath Spa to just about anywhere is also pretty grim.

It turns out that it's considerably easier to find my way to Bath and use this means of transport. So if anyone else is considering going by public transport, prepare yourself for a big zig zag via Salisbury and Gillingham!

Re: Highworth or Shaftesbury away!
For my sins I used to work in Gillingham which is just a few miles from Shaftesbury but several thousand feet lower and with very different inhabitants. It’s a good thing we’re not going there in January as it suffers an Arctic climate.
Quite a quirky town with its Hovis advert street and some good views over the Blackmore Vale way down below!

Re: Highworth or Shaftesbury away!
On Radio Bath yesterday after the Braintree game Jerry suggested that this might be all ticket as Shaftesbury's ground only holds around 1000.
I see in the Non-League Paper today that it is 112 years since Shaftesbury have reached this stage of the competition (although to be fair they haven't entered it that often) and also they are the second highest scorers left in. What could possibly go wrong! (He says, recalling games at Minehead, Barnstaple, Wimborne and other similar places).

I'll be surprised if the attendance is greater than 1000.

Re: Highworth or Shaftesbury away!
I think Shaftesbury’s managers said we average over 2,000 and should easily bring 500. I’ll forgive their errors as I spoke to them last week and they seemed like very pleasant people.
