Sounds like they could have scored half a dozen?

Yes they could, but we managed to fluff at least a couple of good chances. A very entertaining game with 3 excellent goals and The other a contender for Conf South goal of the season.

Re: Bromley v City
Bromley fans in the toilet afterwards were bemoaning the fact that they couldn't finish us off having dominated the game. They are probably right, with the turning point coming when one of their attacking players managed to dribble past Mellor (who did well to hold him up) only to fire a poorly directed shot straight at the excellent Sekani Simpson on the line. He could have picked his spot, but fluffed it. Shortly afterwards we equalised. The goal was finished off cooly by Watkins from a lovely flowing move. As Comrade says we had more than enough excellent chances of our own to win the game, and their second was one of those goals you rarely ever see at this level, therefore by definition exceptional. It was the player's first goal of the season, making it even more exceptional. Mellor made two or three fantastic saves, and the whole team worked very hard. Their keeper, the equally excellent Welch, was also kept quite busy throughout the afternoon. In fact any result was possible, with both teams going for the win. More of a contrast with last week you were not likely to see.

Re: Bromley v City
Yes, sometimes we really are a bit hard on ourselves. The Bromley Forum's current opinion is that this was a good game and City played their part: indeed one poster thought we were in the top 5 of visitors this year. Bromley may have had their chances but we took ours. How often has it been the other way round? So, a decent point against the "High Fliers".
The issue for me is that we put the dreadful performance against Basingstoke behind us and play some decent football at home to ensure a top half finish. Then learn from the experience to improve next year. That will, however, involve some difficult decisions as we say continue to shape the team to get results ie go with the pace AND get some height and strength in to aid both attack and defence - IMHO we have usually been the smallest team on the pitch.

Both teams had periods on top
Both teams missed some good opportunities
Both keepers were kept busy
So yes I would say it was a fair result. It is not like we parked the bus to earn a point!

Re: Bromley v City
I agree we are maybe too hard on ourselves sometimes. When Bromley came to City they had about 3 chances and scored twice winning the game. They barely strung two passes together and were fairly cynical in stopping us playing. The consensus was they are 'streetwise' and clinical. I personally felt they were very fortunate!
When we nick a point away against top of the league, I think its time to say well done to the players, especially after the dreadful performance against Basingstoke the previous weekend.
Big game on Tuesday now. A win is a must if we are to stay relevant in the end of season shake-up.

Re: Bromley v City
If the team play on Tuesday like they did yesterday, the fans will be entertained, that's for sure. We really do need some convincing home performances between now and the end of the season. 6 more games at TP, 4 against bottom half teams. A target of 14 points seems reasonable!

Really enjoyable day yesterday. Decent game and good performance. Rode our luck at times but probably worth a point. One of the better away trips every season.

My MoM was Simmo. He was everywhere yesterday (and he needed to be). They just couldn't get past him in the second half. Reminded me of 'You'll never beat Des Waker!'
