Re: New Signing
He'll have to fight for a place in the team (which is a good thing).

Re: New Signing
Seems that Elliott hasn't actually signed yet, he says that he is in re-hab for a knee injury and will review the situation in 7-10 days. I would read that as Paul Buckle being given one more game to get a result, or he's out the door and Elliot will be back at Cheltenham in a managerial capacity of some sort.

Until the signing is confirmed on the club's official website, we should treat all other comments with un pinch de salt.

To be fair, this was on the Twitter and/or Facebook page (it's now been deleted).

Re: New Signing
From the Chronicle website today:-
Former Bristol Rovers defender Steve Elliott is in line to make his debut this weekend after joining City following his release from Cheltenham Town.
Howells said: “I’d expect Steve to make us bigger and stronger again – he is a big, strapping centre-half and he’ll bully a few.”

That's a shame, from the point of view as to where Steve Elliott probably ends up.

After just 79 days in charge. Makes Cheltenham look utterly clueless. This is one of the most ruinous aspects in football whereby clubs appoint managers willy nilly in the desperate hope they may have magically picked a 'winner'. Meanwhile the financial grief the merry go round causes just make the problems worse.
City's policy of sticking by their man (men) looks a sound one in the long term.

It almost was, until the Cheltenham Chairman contacted Elliott and asked him to hold off signing for anybody. Elliott is a decent bloke, so I wish him well, but would have loved to see him in the black and white stripes.
I agree with @2wierdtown that the revolving door strategy for appointing managers is too much of a lucky dip, and usually leaves the clubs out of pocket and with no long term strategy or stability.

Re: New Signing
I think it is probably a good thing that he didn't come. The days of having aging ex-pros should be behind us really.

Re: New Signing
There's another strange article re Elliott on the Chron. Seems they're still suggesting he's a City player, despite being an assistant coach on a voluntary basis at Cheltenham. Maybe he is helping out at Cheltenham until he's fully fit....? Seems unlikely. I think the situation needs to be clarified ASAP. Elliott is a big character and I don't think this "is he or isn't coming" will help team.
