Keynsham v City
Strong line up with Compton and Welch Hayes starting.

Pretty sure Welch Hayes was in the Oxford City side who knocked Colchester out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

0-0 ht, but Compton and Lucas subbed with possible injuries.

Team: Southwood, Welch-Hayes, Straker, Richards, Batten, Ball, Edwards, Murphy, Jarvis, Rigg, Compton.
Subs - Jamie Lucas, Shawn Bird, Jamie Ollis, Oaklan Buck, Adam Forster.
With a line up that strong I would expect City to win comfortably. Doesn't sound like City are much better than Keynsham, level 9/10, which is about the standard I played at.

Enjoyable evening. City had the better of the play but Keynsham had a few good chances and also nearly scored quite a few own goals. Referee played about 10 extra minutes at the end for no apparent reason.

I always enjoy the Somerset Cup for a fun, cheap evening out with no pressure on the game, why the ref decided we all needed to have that 10 minutes extra of standing in the cold I don't know!
Will be interesting to see Keynsham's clubhouse once the building work is finished, but good luck to them, an decent club to visit.

Re: Keynsham v City
City enjoyed an incredible amount of possession without ever really putting the well organised Keynsham defence under an pressure.
I thought it was unnecessary to start with a lone striker - Jarvis and then Lucas - when the opposition was so limited. But neither staked a claim for a starting position, indeed having Jarvis wide left you might as well play with ten men.
Opi and Miles had very good games. And I liked the young kiddie who came on for Murphy. Looked confident on the ball and had an eye for something different.
For all our pretty passing there is virtually zero penetration. Often Opi had to go alone because he had no forward pass to make. Our back line was pretty solid but even then Keynsham created goalscoring opportunities through quick breaks.
On this evidence Watkins Morgan and McCootie are assured of their places.
(It was Murphy and Compton who suffered injuries - Compton's looked quite serious)

I agree. His name is Shawn Bird and I'm reliably informed that he is a student at the uni. Hopefully he will get further chances and become as popular as Birdy and Sascha's all time favourite player...

No please not another Bird, one was enough for me.
Although I do recall back in the seventies when one was never enough

It wasn't shut, was it? Keynsham don't own anything in the ground, I don't think, so I can imagine that the little money they do make, aside from admission and merchandise (such that there is), comes from bar sales. Actually, in thinking about it, maybe they don't even get that. Indeed, for all the discussion of 4G pitches here, they play on one and don't even get the revenue from it.

And the pitch played very well although one or two players did manage to find divots when shooting.

Presumably they were Keynsham players!

No, the clubhouse was open, but they are in the middle of a refurb (I think) as there was a lot panels off and various signs of building work.
