kick off options
It has long been a puzzle to me why we kick off the way we do. Chas Hemmings hoofing the ball towards Mo-B-Q. It has always seemed to me that this just gives the opposition the ball.
WSM tried to play it from kick off and immediately got in trouble - we won it back and the rest is history.

Re: kick off options
I think the same about Chas but the goal did come from it.
It isn't a great place to have the ball - in the right-back or left-back position even if the throw-in is yours. The opposition have time to get up the field and mark up everyone. Indeed, it may be a bit better than kicking it up and keeping it in touch. You may give possession away and they can get the ball quickly.
It is certainly a better way of kicking the ball towards the goal and hoping the keeper is off his....oh.
