I don't think I've ever seen one of those come off. Years ago it was a common sight to see teams experiment with different free kick routines - I highlighted the memorable one from Ernie Howe recently. There were a couple of innovative efforts in this classic match from Mexico 70 (2' 15" and 8' 35")...

These days, just about every free kick is a shot on goal and most seem to crash into the wall or sail over the bar.

yes it drives me crazy that teams are so unimaginative. I'm sure the success ratio from direct shots is incredibly poor. Even from people who have a reputation for scoring from them like David Beckham.
