Feeling quite hopeful about today - wouldn't call it optimism. 2 week break, new signings. Must be in with a shout.
Chelmo though have a keeper on loan from Barnsley. Singlehandedly kept Ebbsfleet out last weekend.

Yes - the keeper is Andy Dibble's son.

Good result. Quite relieved that the balloon didn't burst after the news of the new signings. Just hope Kaid can keep it up and for his stardust to rub off on our other strikers. Sounded like we created quite a few chances today after a nervous start. Well done everyone; looking forward to BS now.

Whilst Kaid got Man of the Match,  my choice was Steve Phillips for his three / four outstanding saves.

Than you Ben for reserving another blockbuster for a game I was at.  Basketball

Very good performance. Played with 3 up front so always a threat. Defence put in a good shift. When Chelmo got a chance, Phillip's positioning and anticipation was spot on.
Anyone could have been MOM. Danny Bowman was flawless in defence, Simmo will have to go some to dislodge him.
Chelsea lost again.
Supporter Les Pring awarded the Legion d'Honour by the French for his D Day exploits.
The sun shone.
Happy days!

Yes, very encouraging performances from all today. Particularly pleased for Bowman, who had a torrid time in the Sutton game, and that was by far Big Chas's best game this season for me. Kaid brought a lot more pace and urgency to our attack. While McCootie's physical presence is useful, he is continually let down by his first touch. I'd start with Watkins, Pratt and Kaid next week - a combination which could really stretch defences.

Glad you mentioned Bowman. He was right back on form today. Mohamed brings a great new option. He is, in the best way, a very selfish player which means that he is going to shoot before passing and often that is exactly what we need. Pratt works hard for the team but, by doing so, sometimes isn't in the right positions to score. Nick hold it up well but, obviously, isn't always front and centre of the goal to hit them in.

I thought that one or even two more wouldn't have flattered us and, while Chelmsford City had chances, it only looked like they would get one back. Nice to feel so confident after a run of rubbish games.

First game in quite a while. I have no idea how anyone would want to give our keeper MOTM. Yeah he played well and dealt with a few attacks but City were far superior throughout. As said above Dan was excellent and really I liked the work ethic. We are certainly more dangerous when balls are played into players. Second half we wasn't quite as good but still never looked like losing this one. I also thought they were decent, their number 11 was a handful yet we managed the activity well. A really enjoyable afternoon seeing old faces and a win. No wonder why it's very easy to fall in love with this great football club!

Thanks Martin, also feel very privalidged to see Mr Pringle again who showed me his Legion of Honour medal, the highest medal bestowed to an English serviceman from the French. Haven't seen him for a few years, always helped him up to his seat. A true hero and incredible humble man.

I think we were helped in part by Chelmsford wanting to play football rather than just launch it forward. This allowed Bath to play to their strengths.

It shows how decent our performance was when everyone is picking a different MOM. While we second guessed that Kaid would win it yesterday (especially as he seems stronger, and has developed a liking for chasing back that he never had in his last stint), for us it was McCootie, who put in a terrific shift at both ends of the field. Yes, his first touch does let him down occasionally, but he's far less worrying in front of his own goal, and was putting in some tremendous passes too. It's almost as if he's received some coaching somewhere down the line. Has he been going private?

Move of the day though was towards the end of the second half, where Kaid drew three defender away to let Dave Pratt run through unguarded. For me that was as exiting as any goal. Decent afternoon's sport.

First game I've seen McCootie without his compression shorts on under his City shorts.
Maybe extra stretching in that private coaching.

So what was the difference? Why did we win?
I'd say we created just as many chances in the Sutton game (fewer than the Harlow game) but we put them away at crucial times as well. Still wasted a few good chances in the 2nd half.
We seemed better organised and harried and hassled more.
The most encouraging thing for me was that there was no real MOTM - a good team performance. Good spirit.
I don't think 4-3-3 will suit us every week. We will get overrun in midfield. Thankfully, Chas had one of his better games.
It will be interesting to see who makes way for Artus and how well he links up with Mo on the left.
I can see Watkins ending up like Stearn - impact sub.

That video confirms two things, that Chelmsford are indeed another good footballing team and that Phillips made some great saves (as did their keeper).

Two questions, did Pratt backheel the ball purposefully to Adelsbury and did the shot get a deflection?

I do wonder about these officials. See to be getting worse

The one where Bowman is playing him on by almost a yard...? scratch

I can't comment on the Sutton game, didn't see it.

The young lady who chose the MoM was sat in the directors box and, if she isn't a regular attendee at Twerton Park, may help to explain why our attendances can vary.  Kaid was very good and showed commitment BUT more importantly, especially for the occasional spectator, a lot of flair which is very entertaining.
As the Chronicle report says: "...a magnificent performance from Phillips, whose stops in the first 10 minutes prevented what could have been a much different game for the home side" so I can see why those two were the pick.

If fit I would expect Artus and Simpson to return for Bowman and McCootie.

Bishop's Stortford have a poor home record last four games, drawing one and losing three, scoring once conceding five, so we should go there expecting to win.

Oxford City home, will be a real test of the newly found confidence...

Interesting thought. To me Artus, while capable, seems to never really deliver what I'm expecting.... maybe I'm biased in some way... I'm not sure whether he can really be bothered at times.

Accepting his languid style at times, I've seen him work hard this season esp at Harlow where he virtually carried the team.
