I did not see this post until after the match as we travelled back from Leics direct to TP that day. Anyway, for what its worth I am replying now.

I was not aware that I could not do what I did. The rules of this comp' are not explicit enough as they do not quote any limit as to how much one can borrow from Firstpinkbank. To be exact I wanted to put what I had left in credit onto this match bet plus a large enough 'loan' in a last ditch effort to win the thing.

The comp' was virtually dead from very early on due to a certain person being so successful at that stage, so I was unashamably using a loophole in the rules - anyone else could have done the same! If you tweak the rules for next year we will all know where we stand. I believe that the old rules in place at the outset of this comp' were the best - i.e. we all start with £50 - bet [u]every[u] week min £1 or else forfeit £1 for each week that we don't - and don't have any borrowing!

Anyway - full marks to you for keeping this comp' going - it certainly adds to the fun of the Forum.  lol!

Steve

Apologies firstly for not posting the rules from the old forum on here. Here they are....

you start with £50 from the date of your 1st bet.
you can place as much as you like of your kitty on each bet (only 1 bet per match)
if you run out of money you can borrow from firstpinkbank, but you will be charged 20% interest (to be taken out of future winnings)
winner is the one with most money at the end of season!

From the highlighted bit, it's clear you cannot borrow if you're in credit. However, as a gesture of goodwill, you will see from the table above that I placed your remaining credit prior to Monday's match on your bet.

I tend to agree with your suggestions for next season. One question - should someone joining the league late in the season just be deducted a £1 for each bet they miss, or should the £1 also be deducted from those matches they missed before joining? Can you see where I'm coming from, as I can see another loophole otherwise...

And would members of this compo support something similar for the World Cup this Summer?

Thanks for the reply Martin, and your good-will gesture of crediting me with some winnings from Monday's bet - except that you haven't adjusted the total  Smile
Just have a few things to say, as well as answer your questions:- When ones money runs out and one wants to borrow in order to stay in the compo', how much can they borrow at a time; and is there an overall limit on how much one can be in debt? I believe there should be limits else the loophole will still exist and someone could still win it at the death by borrowing enough to do so? If you agree totally with my initial suggestions however then borrowing will not be an issue, and will enable people's betting 'skills' to be stretched to their limit in order to try to keep in credit.
Re someone joining mid-season - I think that either they be given a pro-rata amount to spend overall, else they are given £50 minus £1 for each game they have missed - either way it is the same, but fair on the others who may by then already be well down but unable to borrow until they are skint, thereby not being able to compete with a newby. The worse off will be even more handicapped of course, compared to a newby if no borrowing is allowed, although you could argue that that is their fault.
Re a summer world cup betting comp' - I think it is worth a try, but beware that 'competitors' may well have to miss a go or three due to holidays etc at that time of year.

stevie - table now corrected!

thanks for the suggestions for next season's compo - i'll certainly bear them in mind.

As for a WC compo - my idea would be to give everyone a lump sum, with the opportunity to place one bet on each match day. and as a trial for next season, perhaps deduct £1 for each 'non betting day'.

Yep - that seems to be worth a try - with no Firstpinkbank around it should make people spend wisely in order to eek out their money.
