Joe McClennan
Taken from WSM's website:
Lively winger Joe McClennan has left the Seagulls in favour of a move to National League South rival Bath City.
McClennan was an influential figure in the squad last season as a perennial starter, scoring 3 goals and offering a cutting edge in wide areas.
After making the move McClennan took to social media, posting “Would like to thank everyone at Weston-super-Mare. Was a great year but now it’s time to move on.”
Seagulls boss Ryan Northmore responded to the Bristolian’s exit, commenting “On his day Joe is an exciting player to watch, but we have plenty of those and my priority is to attract a goal scorer.
“I’m sure we would have made him an offer later in the summer however, as soon as I heard Bath were interested I expected him to go. Bath are throwing big money at players so it was somewhat inevitable.
“I have to make sure that every penny we spend represents value for money and we need a more balanced squad. We have plenty of creative players, our priority is to attract a goal scorer or two that will benefit from the high volume of chances we create.”
The club would like to thank Joe for his efforts, and wish him luck for the future.

Each time we sign one of their players they claim we are throwing big money around. Perhaps its all relative.

"Lively winger" eh - we all know what has happened to the last few of those! Still, 3 goals a season should come in handy.

Re: Joe McClennan
This guy looked a good player and caused us problems last season but I am concerned he will end up another Stearn, Morgan or Davidge.
What he did best was attacking the full back playing in wide right role and getting crosses in. My point is that as soon as these type of players come here 'they are not doing what the management want' and get left out. I am not really sure what the management want as they have seen this lad and the others mentioned play enough so they should know what they are about.
If their type of game is not what the management want then I must question why they sign them in the first place. I just hope he gets a fair chance, which is more than can be said for some of the others mentioned.

Re: Joe McClennan
Well, rather than making snide comments about his goalscoring record or assuming he will be treated badly by the management, I'd rather welcome him to City and hope he does well for us.
Weston fans seem genuinely unhappy that he's left (slightly increased by joining us, admittedly) which is always a promising sign. And one Facebook comments says 'he never stops running' which sounds like he may have the type of game that the management are looking for.

'Bath are throwing big money at players'. What an absolutely laughably ridiculous statement. I can assure you no such thing is happening.

Yep, we know Shane, typical [WSM] club response to not being able to keep a player.

Not meant to be a snide comment but saying it as I see it, sorry if that offends you.
Yes I do welcome him to the club and hope we see lots of him on the pitch as he is a good player.

It wasn't your comment I felt was a bit snide, Steve.

It wasn't a snide comment, rather like SteveS I was saying it as I see it, and it is fair to say that similar players in the not so distant past have had problems holding down a regular starting place in the team. Hopefully he will prove to be the exception.

A direct Watkins replacement?

I remember him from the Game over Christmas. Weston played the best football without any penetration in the first half....he was their best player from what I remember. I think he'll fit in okay. Think this confirms Watkins is on his way to Truro.

Re: Joe McClennan
I'm bemused as to why everyone's decided Watkins is off just because Truro were promoted. He said this to the local rag a month ago "I love it here, I love the club and I hope to be here next year.", have I missed something major since then? McLennan to me is clearly a replacement for Stearn

Well lets hope that Watkins stays then - they form a good combination. Its bad enough losing Ross.

I agree, him, Watkins, Pratt and McCootie will be a great attacking force.

especially if Nick can return having sorted out his dodgy hamstring. He could be another Adie Mings.Steve Whites Missus wrote:I agree, him, Watkins, Pratt and McCootie will be a great attacking force.

Re: Joe McClennan
Good news that Dave Pratt has signed as he is one who may well have had offers elsewhere.

Definitely. I think a fully fit Nick McCootie alongside Pratt will be as good as any strike-force in this league.
If he is another Adei Mings, we'll have to keep tabs on any of his male offspring.
