Chelmsford v. City Empty Chelmsford v. City

Disappointing defeat in the end where the turning point was the dismissal of Robbie Cundy right on half time for a foul that led to a penalty and the only goal of the game. Prior to that both teams largely cancelled themselves out though Ryan Clarke much the busier of the 2 keepers though any shots were straight at him. In contrast apart from one shot in the first half and a finger tip save in the 2nd, the Chelmsford keeper had little to do. Nearest City came was when Rigg hit the post from a free kick, hastily given by the ref when allowing advantage would have seen Joe Raynes rifle the ball in off the post for the equaliser.

Chelmsford did create a host of chances in the 2nd half they failed to take which meant City were still in the game at the death. Their increased tempo led to half chances for Mills and Batten but in truth they failed to turn possession in the final third into any meaningful chances. Too often Rigg ran out of ideas on the ball, Brunt failed to get any change out of the Chelmsford defence, meaning the missing Stearn might have been the answer to getting something of a frustrating and eventually pointless day.

It's a tough league with the teams between 4th and 17th place all capable of beating each other. I wouldn't want to bet on a play-off finish this year.

Watched the highlights on the National League website - the penalty was a bit something and nothing and not really sure if it even really merited a card. The real highlight though was Jack Batten's blond hair!
