Post by SASCHA Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:47 pm

My earliest memories of Bath City would be from very late 1959 early 1960. The days of the old flat caps and wooden rattles.
I recall my late father returning home late one evening with a sponge flat cap, black and white squares if my memory serves me correctly. Then being told off for days on end for picking bits of sponge from it, not to eat as it wasn't that type of sponge. The cap had in fact come back from Nottingham where City had just beaten County in the F.A.CUP.
The reward for that giant killing was a home tie against Brighton and Hove Albion  in January 1960 and possibly my very first game. We went as a family unit, mum , dad and five brothers, something you don't see these days and never will again. I was in some form of pram/pushchair as I was only around four years of age and had spent many weeks in hospital earlier that year with a badly broken leg and was still in plaster.
I have vivid memories of being upset when returning home from hospital as I had left my news cuttings of Bath City behind. One in particular was a picture of Jimmy Gooch (goalkeeper), my favourite player. By this time I believe he had been replaced by Ian Black.
We continued to support the team for many years with my parents and then later with my brothers. Many a boggy walk down over the fields from Whiteway.and through the turnstiles on the popular side. Sometimes arriving hours before kick off and going on down the side path to the car park, autograph hunting.
In later years Nigel and I would find a cheaper way in by peeling back the corrugated tin on the popular stand.
Sorry Phil (Weaver) but times were hard living in Whiteway.
Bath City came back into my life when my nephew wanted to attend the relegation decider against Northwich Victoria in the mid nineties. Since which I have been totally committed and probably missed less than a dozen games at Twerton (with a broken back).
Yes I coughed up my £1,000 for the Society.
Yes I re-roofed Randalls and Charlies and saved the club some £11,000 pounds, doing the work virtually at material cost only. For which I received no actual thanks at all apart from Phil Weavers. Not even a compliments slip in the envelope, just the cheques.

AND SO TO THIS--
A club with no soul, the atmosphere on those there  terraces is something to behold.
A dugout  where there appears to be no communication, no passion, no logic, in fact, not a clue.
I am sick to the teeth with watching this so called management team sat on their assses for 90 plus minutes and showing absolutely nothing.
Lets remember the only real action from them was when moved to other side of the tunnel a few years back.
THE REASON-- so they could try to influence the linesman, or at least prevent the opposition bench from doing so. Because lets be honest Britton and Howells couldn't influence anyone or anything that would benefit this club.
Unless they stood down of course.
Many have turned their backs on this club and more will do the same unless something changes.

There needs to be some kind of orchestrated effort in numbers to bring this board to task.
They must answer questions, they must make some kind of move or this club will die.
Many people of my age and older can identify with my opening reminiscences.
My mother returned to Twerton Park for the first time in around forty years in 1999 following the death of one of my brothers in the summer of that year. She then became a regular for the next ten years until well into her eighties and was a regular customer on First Pinkbus for a couple of years.(That's the supporters coach)
She is now in a nursing home, probably living out her last months. Many have lost parents with whom they spent some great times as Bath City Fans. Mother doesn't know much these days which is so sad to see, but glad she doesn't know what's going on at her beloved Twerton Park.

The club appear to be hiding behind the Community Bid situation and I feel that many shareholders are afraid to ruffle feathers.
The fact is, if the board doesn't show some respect to it's shareholders and all paying  supporters, there will be no Community Bid takeover as it will be too late.

To get rid of this management team now , pressure has to be put on this board.
An A.G.M  is needed , but this needs to be pushed for.

My understanding is that the majority of the board want changes but a couple have the power to refuse any move in that direction.
So what the hell is going on. If you want to know, then demand an answer or at least try.

We are and have been for many months the poorest side in this league, statistically a fact.

One last thing , thanks for the flat cap and making us those wooden rattles Dad. (we still have the rattles)

Goodnight Mr Britton and Mr Howells

Yes, I can  certainly identify with your opening reminiscences, Sascha, and have fond memories of the three of you sitting at the back of FirstPinkBus (apart from the memory of your soup). I also recall your mum telling her son to 'stop moaning and enjoy the walk!' on that memorable trip to Halesowen.

I think you have summed up the concerns of many City supporters with your thoughts on the inaction of the board regarding this wretched run and I urge the directors to make a collective public statement before this Saturday's match, reassuring everyone that they are doing their upmost to turn things around.

Making a statement and reassuring everyone are two entirely different things. To not have even done the former smacks of dereliction of duty thus far.

Your post comes from the heart SASHA. Many of us with a similar long family background of supporting the club share your concerns.

Sascha, you have been going to TP almost as long as me. We are the long sufferers who had high hopes of league football for Bath City. There is not much the club can do in splashing cash at the moment, but there are things that can be done. I often ask myself why I drive for over an hour to watch he poor performances that we witness of late. I. Old watch the league team where I live now. But I am keeping faith with the club that I have invested so much of my life with. One thing that annoys me is when people talk about sport in Bath. I lived my first twenty years in the city but could not care less for any other Bath sport, my only love is Bath City. I could return to the city to live but prefer where I live now. I wonder how long Bath City can try my patience. I feel as if we have no management team at the club. Who is responsible for the current disaster, and how can the person or persons responsible remain in the job that they would not survive five minutes if they were at another club. They must have some mysterious hold over the club. Money isn't always necessary at this level to have a successful team and I do believe that we have some good players at the club, something that I have not always thought. If we do get relegated then I shall probably decide to draw a line under this painful association that I have with the club. I have an idea of where I will go to watch my football if it comes to that, but I hope it doesn't.

I see that I am a little behind the times with my post, let's hope for something better.

I still wear a flat cap to Twerton Park on occasions.

I've been away for a few days since posting this topic and have come back to the great news that Howells and Britton have decided to leave.
Were they pushed or did they decide that there was nowhere to go or hide.
Perhaps it was this thread left by me on Sunday evening that finally got to them. The news of Howells departure did after all come through around twelve hours after my post.
Glad to have helped Wink

The only regrets are that it somewhat stole my thunder and that the board are probably never going to be brought to task over this.
That is of course unless we are relegated.
My original post may have appeared to some as being a little self indulgent within the first couple of paragraphs. However that was the whole point as my aim was to point out how I feel this club is being left to slowly die.
One last opinion--  Really don't know why Britton has to hang around in any managerial roll , not even for 3 weeks.
I guess the man brought some good things to this club and I agree that he has spent a lot of time, effort and financial input (assume he has). However I believe he was highly instrumental in bringing Manda Rigby to this club, for which I can not excuse him.

Almost forgot Marc--

Please bring out the Flat Cap, it's preferable to the one you chose to wear a couple of weeks back. Wink

Well, it's funny you say that. I found out last night that, apparently, the Maidstone supporters had a chant especially for me in that game. I can only imagine.

A stetson is fine effective rain protection.
